Well.. I haven't been able to push my stick of Crucial RAM to its limits because my cooling solutions aren't enough to push my CPU that far.. that and I haven't unlocked my CPU yet..

Hey guys, I was just wondering.. my friend brought this up and it really got me interested.. since KingMax is using the "TinyBGA" packaging method for their RAM.. does it really mean that the RAM chips are more prone to "being removed" or "falling off" if you try to slap ramsinks on to it?

I'm using some KingMAX DDR333 myself right now, actually it's from CCE! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif"border=0>

BGA memory is used because at 166 MHz FSB's, RAM based on TSOP-II gets quite warm, that's why many manufacturers liek Corsair, Mushkin, etc use heatspreaders. BGA memory runs a lot cooler.

One thing to remember though, the KingMAX DDR333 is not DDR333 compliant, rather DDR333 compatible. Mine though does about 180 MHz FSB with most aggressive timings.

Excellent.. I think I'll sell off my stick of Crucial PC-2100 to a friend that'll be buying a new comp later on and then I'll pick up a stick of KingMax "DDR333" .. prices are dropping!

Hmm... How high were you able to clock your Crucial again? KingMAX DDR RAM is a mixed bag, I've had good experiences and bad with some sticks and motherboards!

i just upgraded to the kingmax 333 5ns ram...its killer...havent pumped it up too much, ran it @ 180 to burn it in for a week, but now im back down to stock speeds...i had my crucial 2100 up to 183 with a t-bird, then both sticks crapped out one after the other...

bga chips are mre prone to 'fall off' since they are attached to the pcs by little balls of solder (hence Ball Grid Array) and not with the traces through the pcb like tsop...

My KingMAX DDR333 also has a 5 ns rating however most of the newer ones have 6ns DRAM...

What voltage did you give your memory CygnusX1?

Ya, BGA DRAM is quite fragile... Just look at all the horror stories of ppl with Ti4600 cards with broken ram!

when i was up in the 180 range, i was maxxed out on my board @ 2.8...i have read that the kingmax doenst like the overvolting so i got scared until i can confirm and went back to stock settings...

Oh, 2.8 isn't that bad... On my 8K3A+ to get it totally stable at 180 MHz FSB with the most aggressive settings or 195 MHz with conservative ones, I need at least 2.9V... Sometimes even 3V+!

Hehe... I use to feed my Micron PC2100 DDR 3.2V to get it at 172 MHz FSB... It still works great too!
