I just ordered the Gainward GeForce 4 Ti4200 Powerpack. I got the 64MB version of the card because it has faster RAM and there are no games that need 128 MB's of onboard RAM yet. I'll upgrade again before they do. Has anyone tried to overclock this board? What types of speeds did you get? Any tips?

Hey Shiznit, very nice purchase!

I haven't played with the Gainward Ti4200 myself, but the MSI Ti4200 (64MB) I'm using right now overclocks very well. Core does 321 MHz while the memory hits 608 no prob. I didn't add any additional cooling.

You'll find with a GF4 Ti based card, you'll be all CPU limited heck I am even with a XP running at 1.9 GHz!

THe Core of the card does get very hot though, what i did was remove the stock thermal paste and greese it up with some AS3. Becareful though not to get any of the AS3 on the PCB or under the core since Arctic Silver is conductive it can kill your new toy!

Other then that, you look like you're a good overclocker, let us know how you do!

The Gainward GeForce 4 Ti4200 card I recieved is nothing more than a $200 paperweight. When I first got it I installed it and tried running 3DMark 2001 and about half way through my computer crashed. At first I thought it may have been a little to hot in my computer case (82 degrees) and maybe I lucked out and got a really ************************ty card. I then clocked the card down as far as I possibly could and tried running 3DMark again, and this time it wouldn't even start. I could use my computer perfectly fine (Windows/Office/Outlook/IE) but as soon as I tried to load a game, my computer would crash. I called Monarch Computer (where I got my card from) and as soon as I gave told them what kind of card I got, they knew the problem. Quite a few cards got shipped with bad RAM. They forwarded me to the US Gainward office but they were closed. They said Gainward is also aware of the problem and will ship me a new card. Hopefully they won't want the bad one back. I'd like to hang it on my wall. If it does turn out that they don't want it back, anyone reading this should call Gainward and describe the same problem. Maybe they'll send you a second card :-)

************************ man, that totally sucks! What a teese that must be.

Just wondering does the card artifact? The US Office of Gainward is closed already?!?

This is the first I've heard of Gainward cards being like that... I ahd a similar problem with a store bought Leadtek GF3 Ti200 I bought for my cousin a while ago... It was os bad it would heavily artifact at even teh POST screen!

Hey this is jsut an idea, but why don't you flash the firmware on the videocard to a newer version? You never know it may help! Here's a link that might help. Just remember to save the old one.

So far I've been bounced around between the Gainward Office and Monarch Computers. I've installed the latest AGP Driver for my Mobo and that didn't help. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

That's a shame man. I would think Monarch would take care of it since you just recieved the card...

Damn, looking closer at the BIOS link, I don't see any Ti4200's!!! I'm sorry man. If you'd like send me an e-mail and I'll send you my Ti4200 bios.

Update: The bad RAM problem seems to be quite common in Gainwards GeForce 4 Ti4200 series. They are aware of the problem and are supposed to be giving new cards to people experiencing the problem. Apparently many more bad cards have appeared than Gainward originally expected so they are giving people problems who need them returned. This information coming from Monarch Computers. Because of this problem with Gainward, Monarch Computers told me they'd replace the card and deal with Gainward themselves. I found that to be totally kewl because they didn't have to do that. I shipped the card back and hopefully will be getting my new one shortly. They should recieve it by next Tuesday, so I'd hope to get my replacement by the following weekend. If this is the case, and I do get it back by next weekend, I would recommend buying from Monarch Computers because so far, they've done an excellent job in assisting me.

Sounds like Monarch Computers is pretty first class. What brought the change of mind? I thoguht you had to deal with Gainward directly...

I was just wandering if the same dodgy RAM affects Gainward Ti4600 or is the probelm just for the Ti4200

Hey, Shiznit, Since you've already experienced this maybe you can help me. Check out my post "Geforce r ti 4600 causing system crash". Im trying to figure out why my system keeps locking up when i have my geforce 4 installed. I've narrowed it down to either being a bad power supply, or a defective video card. If you could take a look at the post and let me know what you think i'd appreciate it!

Thanks!
-Asphix
