I was thinking of upgrading (my student loan came in, and Im borrowing books), I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this chipset. I found it for $220 with an Athalon XP 2100+ in it.

ADRAMELK! Long time no talk dude!

A KLE133 is not an upgrade on what you currently have, the KLE133 is slower then the SiS735... First, if I were you, I'd spend the money on school but if you really need a hardware fix, try upgrading to DDR memory and a faster processor... If you get an XP CPU and it's a Palomino, get an AGOIA based one and you're all but guarenteed 1.8GHz+!

How about a videocard? Those Radeon 8500's are excellent values as is the GF4 Ti4200!

aite, I got an idea.... I hate my motherboard, I hate it so much you can have it. I want to get a new one, and just put all my existing stuff, including the t-bird in my new one. I was thinking about spending a little money and getting something decent, maybee an ASUS or an ABIT. Maybee DDR slots but I dont wanna spend money on new RAM. What do you think?

Haha...

HOw much do you want to spend on a motherboard? Do you need a board with onboard devices? Ya DDR is pretty cheap these days!

Ill spend over $100 for a real good board. I need no onboard devices.... espically video, that makes me mad...

Well my personal favorite AMD motherboard is the Epox 8K3A+... On Pricewatch it's pretty cheap can be had for around $75 and that's with RAID! It has onboard audio but not a big deal, it also has 6 PCI's.

Here we reviewed it.

Thats pretty nice... me likes the 6 PCI's.

I like the Port 80 diagnostic thing.

Im glad it doesnt have a dumm AMR slot.

RAID 0+1, wierd, never even knew that existed, but what a pain in the ass. To use the RAID IDEs my devices have to be RAID too though right?

2/5th AGP and 1/5 PCI divider, whats that?

...the performance is honestly not as impressive as it should be with the KT333 chipset... but its still your favorite?

Why all the overclocking features in the BIOS but not that great overclocked performance?

The benchmarking tests make for a very solid board from what I can tell.

Thats the first artice of yours I have read Colin, very nice. I might buy this board, im gonna go price it right now.

Think that Epox will put out a BIOS that can change the dividers?

<< 2/5th AGP and 1/5 PCI divider, whats that? >>

Those are dividers that allow your PCI and AGP to run at stock speeds at a 166 MHz FSB.

<< ...the performance is honestly not as impressive as it should be with the KT333 chipset... but its still your favorite? >>

You're right the performance isn't that impressive relatively especially when compared to the KT266A based motherboards, but they will officially work with 166 MHz based Athlon's should they come out.

<< Why all the overclocking features in the BIOS but not that great overclocked performance? >>

That's due to the PCI/AGP dividers. When they run faster, information gets to those devices quicker. At 166 MHz+ FSB's, the AGP/PCI are much closer to spec then with teh KT266A that doesn't have the dividers.

<< Think that Epox will put out a BIOS that can change the dividers? >>

I sure hope so. They haven't yet, but I'm lobbying them to. I just noticed that the Abit KX7 has adjustable PCI dividers. You might be interested in that board as well!

<< Thats the first artice of yours I have read Colin, very nice. >>

Thanks!

I went ahead and bought the Epox 8K3A. I didint get the RAID version because I have no devices that support it anyway, and this will be my last hardware fix for a while..... Also got me a nice 512 stick of PC2700....

Ooo... Very nice ADRAMELK! It's much faster then what you're using right now! You should be happy.

Ya, you need a new videocard but after you're set!

You gonna try overclocking your CPU a bit now?
