I come up with another one.

No matter how insignificant,,or dumb

I want to be on top of it before I buy all I need for a rig this time around.
Got my case, CPU, Ram, HDD,periphials, Video card, finally the Mobo (phew)
Now on to CPU cooling...........

What I wanna try to steer clear of this time around is a 60mm fan screaming at me 24/7 i.e. Delta yaddayadda, being that
I have a wife that usually takes care of that. I dont need 2 devices (a tongue, a Delta fan) working in unison together at any
given time threatening my most vital sense...my hearing.

After days of perusing reviews on HSF's, I see the Thermalright AX-7, Swiftech MCX462 etc..take advantage of the more quieter 80mm
fan.
Although these fans are quieter than the higher rpm 60mm's, are they as good as cooling? Yes, they say they are but advise from
someone who has used one would satisfy my curiosity.
The Deltas can do anywhere from 5000rpm up to 7000. now thats yelling at ya. My previous HSF was CAK38 w/ Delta @ 6800rpm..Ouch!

A Thermalright AX-7 w/ an adjustable 2900rpm-4000rpm 80mm clear fan is an option I'm looking at, or a swiftech MCX462 (nice) with the same,,but alot higher in $$$. Is this enough to keep a XP1900-2100 CPU at decent temps.? My case will have 2 fans in rear and 2 in front, plus a HDD cooler (havent decided on what type yet) plus another intake fan in the HDD rack. The rounded cables will help on ergonomics/airflow etc. I hope. I decided against a side blowhole in the window.

So there you have it. I wanna touch all bases to insure a "cool" case and all the wonders inside it.

You can insert your suggestions right down there.

Thank you very much, Drive through to the first window.

comixion, keep the questions comin... I wish i had experience with the thermalright or the swifty...but alas i am still using my trusty CAK38 w/ delta screamer, and i am going to h2o cooling this weekend.. I LOVE my CAK...my suggestion, get a fan adaptor ($11), and the fan ($10ish) & grill ($15 for the alien head) setup you want and throw it on the 1900...my CAK keeps my idle temps around 4-5 degrees above ambient. ambient-29c, idle-34c, load-40-43c.

good luck, and remeber, no pickles...

Haha, Comixion, I loave answering questions! I thought you knew that!

The Thermalright AX-7 is cheaper then the Swiftech but it won't perform as well... I haven't used it myself so I'm not sure how much a performance difference it would be.

Myself, I'm using the older Swiftech MC-462A with a 41 CFM Sunon now and it keeps my XP2000+ at around 40 degrees as well. If I were you, I'd get the MCX-462 OEM (heatsink only) and get a mid CFM fan like the Sunon... The standard 68 CFM Delta is quite loud, almost to the decibel level of the 60mm delta but with no high pitch.

Oh as for CPU, don't get a XP2100+ if you plan to unlock it and overclock... Unlocking the 2100+ is a real pain in the ass. Just get a chip with the stepping AGOIA and you'll be set. 1.8 GHz+ no problem with regular air cooling!

so you wouldnt say get the XP1900 AGOGA? I hear so many diff. opinions on it.

If the AGOGA XP2000+ is any indication on how well these chips overclock, then you'll hit your limit at around 1.8 GHz. That's was the top speed I could reach. Our XP1900+ AGNGA also maxed out at around 1.8 GHz.

Of the 2 AGOIA's I;ve played with (XP2100+, XP1700+) both did 1.9 GHz.

At the risk of sounding ignorant.......now I'm confused. so is that a no-no on the AGOGA?

<< "AGNGA" >>

aint heard of that 1.

As for the Swiftech MCX462...wow! that a $55 heatsink alone! I hope its worth it.

That's cool man!

AGNGA is an older stepping then AGOGA... When the XP1900+ was first introduced, it was using that stepping... AGOGA was introduced with the XP2000+.

Ya, that heatsink is pretty expensive, but it's worth it man!!! Top notch performance!

well i just got some rma's today...my fic ad11 came back, and my 1700... so now i have:

1800: agoga y unlocked and in rig now...
1700: agoga 4 locked just got it today
1700: agoia y locked been sitting here...

i guess i should unlock the agoia and give it a run...

Gawd, YES, UNLOCK THAT CPU!!!

I wonder how high you can get that with you rwater setup...

Noise is not a concern of mine...so I like the coolermaster HHC-001. I also have 10 fans running on my machine....1 front intake, 1 door intake(92mm), 2 exhaust(80mm),1 80mm on hdd, 2 50mm on hdd, 1 on the chipset(40mm), 1 on cpu(60mm) and of corse the 400w ps has one 80mm.

I use to be like that as well... My Lian Li PC-70 came with 4 27 CFM Adda fans I swapped them all out for 4 43 CFM Sunon's and had about 8 other fans in my system... It's not gotten to a point where the noise drives me crazy! The actual db level of my computer now is less tehn that of 1 60mm delta and I still think it's too loud. Maybe i'm burnt out!
