rob, your motherboad has to support DDR ram. Some ****ty motherboards (like mine) support both DIMM and DDR but DDR wont work in a DIMM sot and vice versa. iow there are specific slots made for DDR ram which provide for the voltage demands of the RAM.

Hmm... If it's an Aopen I'm betting it's an Intel P3 system and you're probably using SDRAM.

How much memory do you have currently?

Howdy dude. Yes, you've got a P3 system... If you baught it last year then your computer doesn't support DDR Memory. You can buy a KR7A-RAID Mobo and XP2100 for like $250 now.. Might want to do that.

ATHLON'S BETTER!!!!!!

Rob, if you're using SDRAM and you only have one type of memory slot, then you'd have to buy a new board. The pins are a bit different for DDR-SDRAM. SDRAM has two gaps in the pins, and DDR-SDRAM has only one.

Not to chew anyone out or be anoying, but DDR-SDRAM for use in motherboards, like SDRAM, is still a DIMM.

rob__100 what OS are you using? If it's Win9x/ME 128MB is fine. You'll notice a little speed increase going to 256MB but not much.

<< Howdy dude. Yes, you've got a P3 system... Just to be absoloutly sure you don't buy expensive RAM and it ends up not being compatible you so head to http://www.kingston.com where they have a database of all recent (within the past couple of years) motherboards which tells you what type of RAM you need.

Dude...you need to check around. I just bought my GeForce4 Ti 4200 128mb for $130.00 USD. Well that is not really accurate because I got a deal from a friend with a connection, but I have found several on e-bay and pricewatch for less than $150.00. To me that is not too much for the upgrade in performance. Although you can get a GeForce2 MX400 64mb for about $40.00. I also have one of those and it does pretty good. The GF4 will do you good for a long time before you have to upgrade. Do what you have to do but I suggest you save a little money up and get the GF4. Either way good luck.

When getting the GF2 look for one with DDR on it. It will make a little difference and it is not that much more expensive.
