I've heard that OCZ RAM isn't any good. Is this true? What would make it as bad as people say?

I have heard that their PC2400-3200 is just PC2100 overclocked and not actually the faster chips that are supposed to be in them. That is one reason that they give you a heat sink on the ram, to cover up the PC2100 numbers.
GNXtreme you're correct in a sense. Since there is no JEDEC standard for PC2400 or PC3200 OCZ does hand pick the good sticks of PC2100 and rebrand them as PC2400. The same thing goes for their PC2700 being hand picked for PC3200 speeds.

Of course their reputation isn't very good, from what I hear many DIMM's don't/won't run at OCZ claimed speeds. I have never had any problems with their stuff, but then again I didn't buy any of it.
I dunno, I hear good things about their EL and EB lines of memory. . .

uhh, since the pair of ocz sticks i have, use modules rate for 500mhz ddr and not 400, i dont think thats all true, although my last two pairs wouldn run a tad over stock settings, one premiere pair at cas 2.5-3-3-6 and one EL platinum at 2-3-2-6 they were great if you dont overclock

OCZ used to be a pretty crappy memory provider. They've come a long way over the past couple years.
