View Full Version : CPU cooler tabs has snapped
I know you're all going to tell me to upgrade anyway, but...

I have a TMC K6BV3+, a nice super socket 7 MB with an AGP slot running a K62 533 in it. Anyway, I thought that having a bus running at 97 MHz was stupid, so I upped it to a hundred, and now it's overclocked (by a tiny amount) to 550 MHz (more for the memorys benefit that anything else). A much nicer, rounder number, don't you think? This works nicely, and just to be sure I slapped on a hefter Cooler Master heatsink and fan designed for a Duron. End operating temperature: 55 degrees C.

Now for the problem...

When removing the processor from the board I have to remove the fan first (don't we all), but when doing this last week I managed to snap off one of the tabs the heatsink/fan uses to clamp itself to the processor. The only thing holding the heatsink to the chip is the tackiness of the heat conductive strip. Since I have a mini tower this is no good at all, it fall off when I stand the case up.

Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this?
...just seems a bloody stupid reason to buy another motherboard for...
Um, your picture doesn't work.

Hmm... Does the CPU socket have any other tabs? If so you can always get a hsf like the Dragon orb which uses more then on notch to secure it. Of coures it's a pretty heavy hsf as well, might do more damage though.

AS for the 533 MHz thingy you're right it's kinda dumb to run yoru FSB at 97 MHz... That little overclock doesn't really hurt the CPU. 55 is quite high! Is it hot in your case?
Yeah, thats why I got the fan.

In fact, I can't keep the case on for any length of time before the MB beeps a warning at me.
I've been meaning to ask - why the A414 road sign? You're from Toronto arn't you?
Hmm... What else do you have in your case? What can be causing the heat build up?

PAnts send me an e-mail and I'll post the image for you.

Ya, I'm from TO, but I thought that sign was kinda neat... Just using it in my sig till I get bored I guess.

Where are you from?
