i am very excited to see nvidia's and ati's offering. the matrox card doesnt look promising for but hopefully that will change with the final release, and maturing drivers...

I mentioned in a different post a review of the new matrox video card due to be released in the upcoming months and benchmarks in comparison to geforce 4 ti 's.. here is the link:

http://www17.tomshardware.com/graphic/02q2/020625/index.html

Its very interesting. The card benches lower than geforce 4 except in certain environments. It still looks to be a good board but i highly doubt it will come out on top. I think 3d labs has a good shot of giving the big boys Nvidia and Ati a good challange, but im pretty confident again that Nvidia will come out on top. Their hardware specs are jaw dropping. The step up is supposed to be huge from the geforce 4 to the NV30. Its supposed to be as big a step if not bigger than the step up from geforce 2 to geforce 3. There will be new features and wont simply be a refined chipset like the geforce 4 was of the geforce 3.

Based on Nvidias promise to release a new chipset every 6 months, im going to buy me my geforce 4 ti 4600 (im impatient and cant wait till fall for price drops) to hold me off, then about febuary/march when the refined release/sucessor to the NV30 comes out ill purchase that.. or possibly wait a whole year... but if its going to be as drastic an improvement as they make it sound, then ill wanna get my hands on one ASAP to see what that sucker can do!

We all know the R300 should be out any time now but it looks like it'll be released VERY soon! Looking at ATI's website there's a neat little flash banner that talks about a "World Without Limits"... Very exciting!!!

The new Nvidia card thats coming out should be real nice as well. Supports something like 120 million+ transistors instead of the geforce 4's mere 64 million+ transistors. Its going to be a huge step up. If i was smart and patient i would wait until that comes out to get my geforce 4 for the price drop, but while i can sometimes be smart i can never be patient . This fall is going to be great for video card sales with the new matrox card coming out along with 3d labs re entering the gaming/lower level video market with a strong product. Then of course we have Nvidia releasing their new NV30 chipset which rumor says is going to be called Oracle (they're diting the GeForce name) and if Ati has a new card coming out that would be pretty sweet as well.

Hmm... 120 million +? Damn that's really big! Even on 0.13 micron manufacturing process that silicon would be huge!

I'm very excited myself on the nv30, I was a big 3dfx fan and the nv30 will have some 3dfx technology in it!
