I took the hard drive out of my old computer and put it in my new machine with no problems. I am running XP pro.
Hi, I'm getting a new motherboard and a processor. I'm upgrading from a celeron to an AMD Athalon XP processor. I was wondering if I need to reinstall windows since I'm keeping my old harddrive?

The hard drive doesn't care what processor you are running. No need to reinstall your OS.

Actually I learned this just the other day when I put a new motherboard in my puter.

If you are running XP youll probabally have to reinstall, at least I had to.

XP has protection againsed booting with different hardware configurations, so you cant just take someones hard drive and see their files. Maybee if you set up a new hardware configuration to begin with, I dunno, I didnt mess with it that much.

I dual boot 2000 and XP and 2000 booted fine so I could recover my files that way. But no matter what I tried I couldnt get into my documents and settings folder. It was abou time for a format for me anyway, but I suggest you back stuff up if youre running XP.
