Well it seems to me that all you guys have a AMD XP or sometype of AMD, but with all the hype around the Pentium 4, why do you guys like AMD so much? I heard they get really hot and aren't as good as pentium, so can you explain to me your guys logic?

Whoever told you that AMD aren't as good as the P4 must just be a fan of Intel. My XP1800(1.53Ghz), in most applications will keep up if not beat out a 2.0Ghz P4. As for the heat, typically the AMDs do run hotter than the Pentium CPUs but it is not enough of a difference to get your panties in a twist about. Mine runs idle at about 37 deg and 42-44 deg under a load, with my light on, no big deal. If you have good airflow in your case a couple of degrees will not matter. Another plus about the AMD is the price, you can get faster CPUs for less money.

Any post-n00b knows that AMD has more bang for buck man! p4 has some strong points like thermal control implemented, but its performance per clock cycle sux0rs.

20 fps in deathmatch = bad news for you

I would mind loosing half my frames if it meant that my CPU lives on to frag another day. The worst feature of AMD CPUs is their fragile nature. They're too easy to damage. One wrong move and before you can say "wonder if that crunching sound is bad" a whole corner of the core's gone.

That is one of the funniest things I have ever seen! Nice 8)

I think pretty much the reason people run AMD is that most enthusiasts don't have the readily available cash to run a P4. Plus while Intel may own the speed crown, I would say AMD owns the performance crown Their products are better priced and geared to the enthusiast.
In May with the release of the Springdale and Canterwood we should see some excitement from the P4 side of things. But, for now, we have the Barton which IMO is the best price to performance wise.

JoshDaMan don't mind the others here. I'm a P4 user myself...

Your friend who told you Athlon's are not as good as P4's is wrong. The Athlon is an extremely fast processor however like all things in life it's not perfect. It does have heat problems and the cores are quite fragile as DeanLowe said but in terms of value they much better then Intel.

P4's are more durable however you need to spend more to get good performance. A low clocked P4 will lose to a similarly clocked Athlon in everything, but at the higher end of the scale things are a bit different.
