Hello,

My friend wants to upgrade his video card so I'm helping him out. He got a ti4200 which i recommended because i have heard that they are very easy to overclock to the speed of a ti4600. THe card he got was the OEM ti4200, not a second party manufactuerer board such as a visiontek or anything. Now he also ordered the thermaltake geforce 4 chipset cooler and we are going to be installing that on the card. Will this be enough to overclock the card to ti4600 specs? im also getting arctic silver 3 for him to put inbetween the heatsync and the GPU. Oh, btw its the 64 meg version of the ti4200.. the one with the slightly faster ram.

Thanks in advance to any comments/suggestions!

Asphix
I think you are going a bit overboard with the cooling aspect of things. If you get a utility like 'PowerStrip' this will let you overclock the GPU and the RAM and I doubt it very much that you will need additional cooling to what you already have on the card.

Well I did it....I overclocked my 4200 to 300/540 with +.1v....I got a score of 9295 on 3DMark2001. I did go a little higher but it was unstable. I may try to do some more tweaking and go higher.

Forgive my ignorance GNX, but did you increase the voltage to the vid card by .1v? If so, how does one do that? I have a Visiontech Ti 500 that I am going to try OC'ing since it's not worth to much anymore. I was going to put a better fan (ChromeOrb) on it and use NVMax to squezze a little more out of it, but I never new that it was possible to increase the AGP voltage.

The voltage adjustment is an optioin on my mobo BIOS. I used powerstrip to overclock.

So you have a bios option to increase the agp voltage. I never realized that option exisited. Live and learn!!

I have thought about bumping it up a little more and trying to go faster....we'll see
The 128MB cards have the memory clocked slower by default, 444MHz as opposed to 513MHz of the 64MB.
The 128s don't seem to overclock as far at the 64s either, the cores are the same so you can probably get a little more outta that. My Leadtek ti4200 64MB had clocked to 333/640 so far, with no artifacts.
