I just bought the Alpha PAL8045U heatsink and this is the awesomest heatsink I have used. I want to get a Delta 80MM for it but right now all I have on it is a Sunson 80MM fan. I have my 1700+ clocking in at 1750mhz. It runs at idle at 37.5C and load at 40C. This smokes my old ThermalTake Dragon Orb 3 which ran at 44C idle and around 47.5 load.

I am not overclocking yet but my Cooler Master HHC-001 keeps my XP1800 steady at 36c idle and 39c under heavy load. Those are some impressive nubmers from your Alpha...rock on.

Hi,

I have a AMD1900+xp with the same heatsink as what you have! but my temp is alot higher then your idle = 48c and about 52c at load! can you tell me what tower you have or is it a problem with the air intake? Where did you get your tower from as I have been looking around of a bigger one, at the mo it is 16tall x 8wide and 16.5deep.

Dang mang, my case is 11" taller than yours. You may need more airflow in the case...the key is the intake fans, more so than exhaust.

i have the same heatsink, but i have the vantec tornado fan which pushes 84.1cfm but its damn loud, i plan on getting a rheobus soon though....GNxtreme, i think a lot of people might disagree with the statement about more intake than out, i think a balanced system would be desired. Too much in might cause heat pockets because the air has nowhere to go. I think everyone thinks differently about the subject though

Well the more intake works for me.... My case temp stays at a constant 31deg, even with my light on.

Ok, but i have tried an intake fan at the front of the case but WOW it's loud! I have heard that there are some intake fans normally used for Hard-drives, could i use them? If not what is your case and where did you get if from? please.

My case was given to me and has no markings on it at all....I don't have any idea what brand it is. What I do know is that it is big and bad!

Deslogos,

Do you have at least one intake fan running? If it is loud, you try try modding the case to clear all the obstructions out of the way. You should also have and at least one exhaust, not counting the Power Supply exhaust.

I agree with EZ...you need to concentrate on an efficient intake and exhaust. The hard drive cooler was not meant to be a case cooler. What I did with my fans was cut out the area in the case directly in front of the fan, not in the plastic cover but in the actual metal case (you know the area that is drilled out to resemble a fan grill but is still really restrictive). That vastly improved the airflow on both the intake and exhaust.

I have one exhaust (in a pci slot) and one fan exhaust in normal place at the back of the case! No intake! as for the one on the front was very nosey!

Once again Delslogos you seem to hear what others are saying, yet it doesnt compute with you. Yes, front intake fans do create some noise but they are there for a reason. If you want cooler temperatures you need to improve the airflow in your case and that means an intake fan. Also, if you are handy with tools I suggest you go to virtualhideout.com and check out their guide on using dremmel tool to cut a nice hole in your case. My suggestion is you go with a big (120mm) slow rpm fan (3000-3500rpm max) to minimise the noise increase. If you want it very quiet then perhaps liquid cooling might be an option for you.
OK, I hear what you are saying, and yes cool Idea, but i think I have sorted it out! I have ordered a case which is bigger then mine and with intake fans already installed! So thanks for the help and happy gaming!

Delboy, You would be surprised how much noise would be eliminated by dremeling out the "grill" built into the case and opening up the area that allows the air to be drawn in. That is the first thing I do to a new case.

I tried that before and it made the case look very bad!

The intake is usually on the front botttom of the case. I don't put a hole thru the plastic case front, but open up the bottom of the plastic cover where it draws the air up and thru. That combined with cutting the metal "grill" out improves airflow quite a bit. I also have an Enermax 2 fan power supply. They are really quiet and help alot in keeping the case temps down.

My case is the one that looks like a Nokia Mobile Phone. It has an intake and I have put a fan there, the fan is not a brand type and it looks old! So tell me a website that does fans and I should be ok please?

Just about anyplace that handles computers parts/sales should sell fans. Get one with ball bearings, they last longer. I would reccomend Sanyo-Deniki, but any fan with ball bearings would be ok. If you want to buy it online try www.heatsinkstore.com or www.newegg.com
