View Full Version : help with monitor please!!!
recently i've decided to purchase a new LCD screen and i can't decided whether or not i should buy a computer LCD screen from Samsung's 191T or a LCD multifunction TV monitor from Sharp's LC-20B2UA. the problem or dilema i am encountering right now is that 191T offers many good features like digital/analog input and 250 units of brightness and 500:1 of contrast and it's 19'' ; on the other hand the sharp's 20'' multifunction monitor offers 430 units of brightness, 500:1 contrast, many ways of connectivity (component, RCA video, S-Video). and it sounds better to buy the Sharp cause it's only about $100 or $200 more expensive then the Samsung and it's 1 inch bigger plus you can hook up with TV. my question is is there any downside to use this kind of multifunction monitor (with S-video to your computer) as your computer monitor. i have a Geforce4 mx440 so it has a S-video out.

One of the main purposes of the LCD monitor is to save space on your desktop. If play high res games the LCD will typically give you a lower resolution than a CRT. I myself prefer not to have a LCD, but I am not pressed for space on my desktop either.
thank you for the input, but what i want to know is if there's any downside to use the S-video for the LCD "TV" monitor as to using a regular LCD TFT computer monitor. in another words will i get any quality lose for using S-video output monitor compare to VGA output monitor.

Athlon XP 2000+
Asus A7M266-M Motherboard (266 fsb)
PC 2100, 512 DDRAM
Geforce4 MX440
Soundblaster Audigy
Altec Lansing ADA890 THX 5.1 surround speakers
If you have a DV port on your graphics card using it with an LCD screen is much better than analogue or s-video as the brighness and contrast are perfect straight away without ou haveing to fiddle around with it.
