Okay latley my computers been really f'ed up. When ever theres a popup window (like another IE window... a link that makes a new window appear... yeah), it doesn't show, it just looks all wierd. And when ever I try to install something (like the new nvidia 40 drivers) when it starts unpacing the installer it comes up with the error: The installshield engine, could not be launched. error with dsl/library. Or osmething like that. Any ideas if I should reinstall my os, or if its a virus?

Okay, I checked for currupted files and theres a system file called viewers thats messed up. I don't have the Windows 98 CD with me, but could this be whats causing the problem? I tried reinstalling IE, nothing. And I don't know whats up with the installshield programs messing up.

its doing that becuase you are running windows 98 and not NT .. the 40.42 drivers will not work with 95,98,98se,or ME they will only work with win XP Home,XP professional, 2000, 2000advance, and 2000 advance server

No, actullly, it wont let me use any "installshield" programs. Like I can't install battlefield1942 eather. And I fixed the currupted file(s) and it still comes up with the same error well installing 1942 as it does when installing the drivers. I also tried repairing IE and reinstalling IE. The IE windows are tsill messed up to. And battlefield 1942 requires 256MB RAM and Reccomends 512. So you do, need more RAM for games. And Everquest and it's expansions all require 256MB and reccomend 512... So, arey ou wrong, or not?

Max to be honest mate i do not think you have a virus but go to null
and do an online scan they will tell you if you have one, also with 98se after a while it gets very niggly and things start getting corrupted.

i use 98se and i was having a lot of problems with internet explorer and a few other programmes so i did a full format of the hard drive and reinstalled the 0s and believe me everything was running sweet again it is always best to do a format and clean install of your os after 6 months or so it is just the way the os are they get f'ed up easy.

you say you do not have your 98 disk with you i had the samr problem just borrow of someone or if you have a mate at college ask him to ask a friend you should get your hands on somehow mate anyway good luck hope you get it sorted out take it easy

I believe that an OS re-install will help a lot. Any time you uninstall or delete files you run the risk of deleting something that windows needs to run correctly, "shared files". Whatever you do "good luck".

Okay I fixed the IE problem. It works if I just stick to IE5 and not 6. Wonder why.... But the installshield thing is still messed. I even tried deleted it but wehn I run teh game that ueses it then teh folder just reappears and comes up with an error... wierd.

Ok, with 98se there is a utility to check for and fix corrupted files, but you need the CD to get the replacements from. The only thing is it will also try to get you to replace updated files.....which you probably don't want to do. Only replace corrupted ones.

THe actual best method to fix it is as the others said....do a fresh install.
