About two years ago, I purchased an AMD Athlon "Thunderbird" which is the 1.13
My motherboard is an Amptron K7-817LM Socket A @266/200MHz
Chipset is ALI M1645 (Northbridge) and Ali Magic 1535D+ (Southbridge)

What do I have to do to upgrade to the Latest and Greatest AMD XP CPU?
If I just flash to Bios to acknowledge the AMD XP is that all that is required or should I do something else?
Will my current Chipset support the new AMD XP or "do I have to buy a new Motherboard with a newer chipset"---Or is that the whole purpose of "flashing the Bios".

Ypu should be able to simply update the BIOS and you will be ablle to use anything up to the brand spanking new 2600+ XP. The minimum processor you should get is the 2400+ XP as this is overclockable like hell (exaggeration)

My Mobo Has the AliMagic1 chipset and I am running an Athlon XP 1600. All you have to do is flash the BIOS and you should be fine. According to OCWorkBench.com this chipset should even support the 333MHz FSB Athlon XP 2700 and 2800. I still have yet to confirm this anywhere else, but I hope it is correct. It'd be nice to upgrade to a CPU twice as fast for less than $200.

Go to the mobo's website and check whether you can update the BIOS. I agree with ICEMAN, if you can update then you are on your way. Good luck.

I agree with MustangPC. Go to the mobo manufacturer's website just to make sure. They will have the range of compatable processors in the MB specs.
