I recently bought a Geforce4 MX 420, before you laugh I don't have an AGP slot on my computer so that was the most advanced Videocard I could find that would fit. Anyway, I reinstalled my copy of Final Fantasy 8 to have another run through it. To my surprise, there were errors in the coloring of the menus and characters as well as vertical lines every inch or so. I patched it with the correct patch and everything to no avail, the menus are still discolored. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Get a new mobo with an AGP slot. It will make a lot of difference - especially if you use a lot of games on your computer. It won't cost too much.

That's not an option right now, besides it wouldn't fix my problem. Does anybody have any suggestions about my FF8 problem?

Did you have an nVidia Card before? I had a few problems installing my GeForce 4 Ti, but after installing the latest drivers from nVidia, all was well.

I agree with shiznit, first download the latest drivers from nVidia's site . There is a program I've used that might help you as well. Go to ecolor.com and look for a program called "3Deep" (acually i'm uncertain of the product name, but ecolor only has about 3 programs on it anyways so search for the one that best fits your problem). This program will adjust the llighting, color, and darkness/brightness based upon what type of monitor you have. You go through the test it gives you (will only take 1-2 minutes) answering questions about what you see, and the program will adjust the color, lighting, etc. to match your answers (it's kind of hard to explain, you might just want to try it for yourself).

I actually have trouble with FF7 using nVidia's latest drivers. (anything later than 14.x) The menus and colors were wrong. I'm asuming it'd be the same way for FF8.

If you get that video card to run, maybe you'd want to stay away from their latest drivers (later than 21.x or 23.x) since it's a GF2 on the inside.

Hey, I'm not laughing..... I have a TI4600 OC at 340/750 and my friend just bought a MX420 as he is in the same boat. We played MOH Alllied assult on them both side by side and you could not tell the difference. I have a P4 2.53 and his was only an old Celery 1ghz. I have been told by others that the TI4600 is just over kill for most of todays games and now I believe it.
