View Full Version : The best motherboard.
sorry about the blank topic. but i would like to know what the best motherboard is out there. what i'm looking for is a gaming freindly, music burning freindly, video editing freindly motherboard. and i'd like to overclock with ease. money really isn't an object where this is concerned. i'd rather put out the money for something that's gonna last for a while and handle all of my needs rather than compromise. also which one AMD OR INTEL? any help is appreciated. thanks ahead of time.
while i'm here. i'm building my first computer. yes noooooooooobie. anyway. i have been visiting the site for a while and have a good knowledge of computers. any suggestions for a new build. price cieling is $800.
i want a motherboard that can handle the fastest memory.

Here comes the product plug......Soyo motherboards are very stable, easy to overclock, just released the KT400 chipset, and are really damn pretty. btw the KT400 is for AMD, which is my preference. Now you said that price is not a concern with your mobo....how about the CPU? Intel has the 2.8GHz P4 now but you had better have a heavy bank roll to snag that one.

QUESTIONS: Does the $800 include the mobo? What do you use your system for? Do you have any parts from an old computer your going to use in this one to save money? Does the the $800 include only the tower???

COMMENTS: AMD or INTEL....it really doesn't matter. Both processors are priced the same for the same performance (Athlon XP 2400, P4 2.4Ghz <-- same price). It is really up to personal preferance. Personally right now I'd go with the P4. The Mobo will be a lil more expensive, but they run cooler. You can overclock both these chips to be around the same speed P4 to 3.0 Ghz, and the XP 2400 to around XP 3000. When it comes to motherboards the two best are Abit and Asus. Personally I like Gigabyte right now in terms of price/features. SOYO was mentioned and that is the board I have right now. They are stable, and work good, only problem with them is SOYO boards don't perform as well as most others. The actual CPU speed and amount/type or RAM you need will depend on what you use your system for.

There are only two board manufacturers that has won mentions in several reviews - GigaByte and Albatron. If you are looking for stability and value for money, these two goes a long way. Good luck on your search.
I'm gonna definetly disagree with MUSTANGPC. When I hear someone say "best Motherboards" the first thing I think of, as with most people, is performance. He's partially right in that Gigabyte has very good boards. They always have the best price/performance/features ratio. I just purchased a new gigabyte board for this reason. As for Albatron.....um, no. These boards tend to fit into the area of "bargain bin" parts. If your lookin for an inexpensive Mobo, then this could be an option for you, but you said in your first post that money isn't an object when it comes to a new Mobo. As I said before the most expensive/best performing Mobos are from Abit, and Asus. Personally, I like Gigabytes massive amounts of features for a better price myself. If your buying an AMD board, the best chipset right now is the KT333. You can get a look at a comparison of 18 KT333 Mobos at Toms Hardware . Gigabyte wins the test, and that is the same board I just bought....for an amazing... $39.
