I am having problems with my Gainward GeForce 4 Ti4200 (64MB Version). I do not currently have the card overclocked. About 1-3 times a week I'll be doing work on my comp and the screen will turn to a wide variety of rainbow colors. Usually if I reset the computer, it'll boot back up fine. Sometimes I have to totally shut it down for 5 minutes before it will work. Any suggestions as to what can be done to fix this? This is my 3rd Gainward GeForce 4 Ti4200 card. Each of them had separate problems so it's not a compatabilty issure. I DO NOT recommend ever buying from gainward.
I would say download the latest drivers but I am sure that someone with you intelligence would have already tried that. It could possibly be a cooling problem so you have to wait for it to cool down when you turn it off until you turn it back on.

I did not update the drivers when I posted this message because I was pretty sure it was a hardware problem. Since then I've upgraded to nVidias newest drivers and the problem still persists. As for what OS I'm using... WinXP Pro.
have you tired it on a different monitor? it could be that the connector of the monitor is getting busted. other than that the only thing i can think of is your onboard memory chip on your card is gettig fried but that's only if you O/C ed it hardcore before.

-BAM!

When I have this "rainbow monitor" problem it is a system problem, not a monitor problem. I only know this because it locks up the whole computer. A computer can run fine w/o a monitor, but if a video card crashes, it'll locks up the system.
only trying to crank out some ideas man.... don't know what to tell ya!
good luck!
Say it aint so..
My Gainward has just started to do that too!!!

It is 6 months old so maybee dusty and hot but wow, not a good look.
