is the msi ktp3 or its called somin like that, it is anygood?
Hey Snake I've just been reading some articles on the MSI KT3-Ultra VIA KT333 Mobo.
If this is the same one your talking about they pretty much said "it has lots of features but low on performance". I can't seem to find the article, when I do I'll post it
Is this it?
I've always been a big fan of MSI motherboards. They always build very well rounded products.

Perhaps they're not the best overclocking solutions, but they aren't bad and they make up for that in terms of value easily!

Lets not have any MSI bashing going on in here. I love my new MSI board. So what if they aren't the best overclockers and performers, they are a nice shade of red. If you were to have a case with a window kit, I'd never put one of those ugly yellow/brown ASUS or ABIT boards in there.....That's for damn sure.

<< Lets not have any MSI bashing going on in here. >>

We're not MSI bashing! I would never bash MSI, they give me a lot of loving! They do look awesome that's for sure and they almost always have the most goodies of any mobo's.

Personally I don't like Asus products myself, I think they're overrated and expensive. As for Abit as a user, I have been extremely happy with my last few Abit motherboards and would easily recommend them to anyone. LOL, I would recommend MSI boards to those same ppl as well though.

<< I'd never put one of those ugly yellow/brown ASUS or ABIT boards in there >>

My TH7II-RAID is green, does that make things better?

the yellow/brown look is more modern that the green. Now your going retro.

<< the yellow/brown look is more modern that the green. Now your going retro. >>

Ya, that's true! My computer looks old school dude!
Hey Shiznit, damn the MSI K7N2 is fast dude! I'm playing with one right now and I'm pulling some awesome 3dmark scores! Check it out!

With my GeForce 4 Ti4280 clocked Core 315Mhz, Memory 560Mhz I can reach a 3DMark score of just over 13100. Your only 1900 ahead of me with a faster CPU/BUS/Graphics card. I'm telling you the 128bit memory interface really helps alot.
Damn I am impressed! I just finished playing with a DFI KT400 motherboard that I thought was pretty fast already and the MSI nForce2 beats that rig in 3dmark by about 700 points at stock speeds! That's a huge difference for just a different mobo! I'm very impressed to say the least!

I'd say its time for you to trash that Intel piece of ************************ your using, and get ahold of one of those Athlons that can run at 3.2Ghz
Actually I was thinking about changing back to AMD, but I think I'll wait till the Hammer comes out before I make a move. Anything I get right now would only be a band-aid solution and I don't have $$$ to waste anymore.

Haha, 3.2 GHz with an AthlonXP is simply insane! Crazy to tell you the truth!

There is no reason the barton core's should run any slower. They should actually have a larger die so more surface area in contact with the cpu will allow for better cooling. 3.2Ghz / 512kb L2.......SWEET!!!!

Ya, thankfully AMD got all the quirks out of their 0.13 micron manufacturing process so I suspect that they would clock quite nicely!

3.2 GHz perhaps but probably on a Prometeia.

Polywell had specs of their first Hammer based system....The CPU was running at 1.4Ghz. I'd like to see higher speeds there, but I can't really bash it, because I don't know how well that perform compared to current processors. That 1.4Ghz may be an Athlon 64 3000+
Unfortunately everything out there right now is pure speculation. I'm going to wait till I hear from AMD and see some actual benchmarks before I make my decision on which way to go.

Actually, it is not speculation. AMD has released around 500 working Hammers at 1.4Ghz for system integrators to start working with.... May I quote from the inquirer.net:

EARLIER WE MENTIONED AMD's "Beachhead" project – no doubt the Polywell systems we revealed earlier this week were a leak as part of the strategy.
That much is evident from an AMD document we saw in London yesterday evening.

AMD says that Beachhead is a market development programme which seeds strategic system builders (SSBs) with Opterons prior to their launch, in a bid to increase customer demand for the Sledgehammer chip.

But AMD warns that such systems are pre-production units and customers should be warned of this, meaning that they have limited warranties.

Beachhead products will indeed use the Newisys Khepri platform, an enterprise level platform up to tier one standards.

And the system builders are to buy the Opterons directly from Sanmina SCI. That, readers will recall, is the firm that snapped up a huge chunk of IBM's business only yesterday.

The system builders are expected to sell such systems to end users for software development and evaluation work, but AMD is warning that they are not intended for benchmarking, because final production machines will produce different results.

It's not final production hardware for processors and for chipsets, AMD emphatically warns.

The systems very much resemble the Polywell specs we revealed earlier this week – 1U rack mounted servers, dual Opterons, up to eight GB of memory using 1GB DIMMs, and 16GB when 2GB DIMMs go into production, using 32-bit Linux, 64-bit Linux beta, a product version of Windows 2000, a beta version of .net server and – most importantly – the pre-alpha version of Windows AMD 64 (64-bit).

And AMD warns Beachhead systems are only for builders who can give level one and two support structures, have strong server customer bases, well trained engineers, and want strong advanced systems management. It rules out system builders who can't meet these criteria.

Khepri based systems come in two configurations which are dual Opterons running at 1.4GHz, eight by one GB DIMMs, one 36GB 15K RPM Ultra 320 hard drive, and with an approximate cost of $10,750.

The second configuration, which AMD calls "Edge of Network Servers" also have two Opterons at 1.4GHz, use four 512MB DIMMs, have a similar hard drive and come at an approximate cost of just under $8,000.

AMD says that system integrators should be aware that there are only 500 development platforms.

The first units will ship at the end of January, while the last units will ship in the middle of February.

Once the 500 systems have been seeded, there will be no further systems available until the official launch of the Opteron in March/April

SEE, THEY DO EXIST!!!! How do you sign up to get one of the "seeded" systems!!!!
Oh. Thanks for the update!

More Hammer information from the same source reguarding the PR system...

2800+ (1.6GHz), 3100+ (1.8GHz), 3400+ (2.2GHz), 3700+ (2.4GHz), 4000+ (2.6GHz) 4300+ (2.8GHz).

This would allow you to safely assume that the 1.4Ghz systems in testing by manufurers have a speed rating of 2500+. It will be interesting to see how things are to go in a couple months. We already know that with some effort you can get your .13 micron Athlon to reach speeds close to 3.0Ghz. If it were a Hammer you'd be up to a PR rating of 4600+
While I'm glad AMD has pretty much solved their 0.13 micron manufacturing process problems for the Athlon, I just hope they don't have as much difficulty manufacturing Hammer's on 0.13 as well. Also, with the Presscot (0.09 micron) P4 coming out with possibly 1 MB of L2 cache, that's going to put a ton of pressure on Hammer in terms of 32bit performance.

Yes it will, but I just thought of something else. If you notice the slower clock rates of the Hammer....it will once again be happy with the bandwith of DDR266 Memory. When they are released they are going to use DDR333. If you aren't getting the picture this means they will have a surplus of memory bandwith while the P4s at higher speeds will still be starved for information.

I don't know where your from Nasty, but here in the US I'd agree with Colin in that Asus is fairly overpriced. And don't you worry about upgrading your video card...I'll send you the one I have after Colin hooks me up the a GeForce FX.

Actually, he'd probably give it to someone w/ an Intel system, being as how they have the most to benifit from the performance boost

Honestly Shiznit I don't know enough about the Hammer to have an educated guess on how it will perform. "Would you really do that Shiz?"

Why not? What do I need a second VC for. Normally I'd sell it on Ebay to help pay for the new card I just bought, but if I got it for free, then I could give it up. Even though if you've noticed, my computer building budget is in need of some cash. That's okay, I can be in debt, other than upgrading to a better video card, I don't really need anything right now. My next upgrade after a video card will be the last of the Barton's. Once the hammer is released the Bartons should be nice and cheap. I really want to buy a Hammer right away, but they'll probably be expensive, and have bugs to work out.
