I have Windows XP home on one computer and XP Pro on another. They are networked so I can share my files. Is there any way to share the program files folder? Windows tells me that I don't want to do this, and prevents me from sharing it. I'm just sharing it on computers in my home, and I have a firewall, so there's no way anyone unwelcome can access it. Also, I get all kinds of weird "access denied" messages when trying to access network resources. This really annoys me since Windows is locking me out of my own computer. Anyone know how to fix this?
In the control panel go to the file and printer sharing and enabl;e file sharing. Now right click on the drive/folder and click on the sharing and security thing. from here you can enable the sharing of the folder/drive.

To access the drive from another machine open my computer/ie or whatever and type in //computername into the address bar, it will show you all the shared folers and drives on the computer.

Running programs though the network is not as simple as it sounds. Some programs can do it with little or no problems while most can't. It all depends on how the program uses the Windows registry and DLL files. Here's a link that may help you. http://howto.lycos.com/lycos/step/1,,5+30+118+23576+14996,00.html To do it properly you need a server OS like Win2K Server or Novell NetWare. Not all programs can be served remotely.

What programs are you trying to run?

I'm not trying to run any programs. I just want to be able to access folders such as "program files" and the accounts under "documents and settings" so I can copy updates from computer to computer. Things like my game profiles in Dungeon Siege and stuff like that. It's a pain to burn a CD just for that, so I want to be able to just drag and drop the files over the network. This works in every folder that I've tried to copy from except program files, documents and settings, and certain things in the windows folder. I didn't have this problem until I loaded Windows XP Pro rather than Home on one of my computers, and I changed from FAT32 to NTFS for the speed improvement.
