<< Hey NaSTy what problems do you have with your Maxtor HDD's? >>

Well I do lots of video editing and I find that the Maxtor drive skips like a CD
Um how can I put it..... it.. its jumpy on playback. It seem to capture alright though but I don't trust it coz
I don't want to set it up to capture an hour of footage then find out its all jumpy.
Which is a real pain coz I bought the 80Gb Maxtor to capture, store and playback footage
Now I just use it for storage which also is a pain coz now I have to move the footage from drive to drive
just to watch the dam thing.
I don't have this problem with my other two drives and they are over 4 years old

I came into an unexpected $200 which will promptly be invested into my computer. Reading my specs below, what do you think I should buy that will best improve my computer performance? I'd be interested in what everyone has to say.

Go Intel!!! Haha, j/k.

To be honest you have a very powerful well rounded system there. Perhaps you should look into getting a water kit...

I agree with you in the "powerful and well rounded" part. There is only slight room to improve in each catagory, but it'd be a waste of money to try a get rid of one of the components I already have. That's why I posted this thread for suggestions. Maybe I'll get a nice leather executive chair instead of my old computer chair :-) I could always save it and put it towards my non-Lian Li computer case.

OMG yes, investing in a good chair is really worth your while! I use to use a ************************ty regular folding chair (a long time ago!) and my ass and back would be sore after a few hours of computer use.

With my new chair, I can game the entire day and still be ok!

<< I could always save it and put it towards my non-Lian Li computer case. >>

There you go with your Lian Li bashing again!

The chair I have now is nice....but it's doesn't have a really high back, and of course it's not soft, black, imported leather either :-)

Hey Shiznit, I was just looking at your specs and was wondering, out of the Maxtor and the Western D
which do you think works best?
Coz I got myself an 80GB Maxtor and I'm not happy with it.
I find that me good old Quantum works better.
Anyway I think you should give me the $200

The Western Digital is far superior in both capacity and performance. It is my main HD. Windows and All my programs are installed on it. The "My Documents" folder is held on the Maxtor. That contains all my MP3's, Pictures, and multi-gig porn collection.

Hmm. I love my office work chair, it's so comfy. Sometimes when I spend all nighters at work, I can fall asleep in it!

Hey NaSTy what problems do you have with your Maxtor HDD's? Myself I have 3x 80GB D740X's and I find they work pretty well. A bit loud for my tastes but other then that I have no complaints. The WD is nice as well and it's extremely fast. Faster then the Maxtor D740X's for sure, but I've always liked Maxtor because their RMA service is a bit faster.

<< multi-gig porn collection. >>

You got a FTP?

<< Get a really nice escort! >>

Haha, CHE that's the best suggestion so far!

I told you I spend more money that i should. I had $200 to spend and the total prices of todays buying: $438.....No upgrades for many months to come :-( But I'm gonna have a damn nice tower :-p

That seems kind of odd. Normally I would think something like that wasn't the fault of the Hard Drive. If you narrowed it down to the HD at fault, I'd start looking a jumpers, and every other setting I could think of.

Hmm, that's an odd problem NaSTy... I have never had any jumping problems when viewing DiVX movies myself, but then again I don't do any videoediting. Just wondering, when's the last time you defragged your HDD? Do you think that could be it? I would contact Maxtor about that, perhaps they have an answer to your problems.

<< OH and Shiz mate we need to talk

<< Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm Secondary PoRn storage >>

I have about 20GB left on my Maxtor that needs filling
It'll be a little jumpy thats all. If you need to tell someone in this forum that is having performance problems if they have defraged their drives, you need to kick them into the Noobie Threads and keep that first grade crap outa here.

And just FYI...I'll break down the contents of my Maxtor Porn Palace....

XXX Pictures Foler..... 140.7 MB.....That doesn't sound like many pics, but THEY'RE ALL JPEGS (70kb - 250kb each)
XXX Stories......12.9 MB.......So what if I like to read sometimes!!!!!
And the grand kahoona...(drum role please)
XXX Movies.....21.8 GB.....If I enabled sharing of this folder in KaZZa, my name would come up at least 20 times everytime you search porn...unfortunately my bandwith is too precious to be wasting it on all you porn hungry maniacs, so sharing isn't enabled

I had to buy the second HD just for this purpose...I was sick of losing my collection everytime I reformated And just so you all know, I've tested this out myself with 3DPoRnMark 2003.....AMD systems run porn faster, and at a higher quality. You can better your performance by keeping your system 1 degree cooler if you use a Coolermaster Case.

I know it's newbie type stuff, but I don't think NaSTy would be offended if I asked. It ain't that a big deal is it?

Haha, thanks for the break down!

<< AMD systems run porn faster, and at a higher quality. >>

Okie dokey... Gotta put that AMD system back together!

What I meant by saying that is I'm sure it's something he does often...expecially with they type of work he's doing on his comp.

Haha, I know I should defrag my HDD, but I never do. Damn, I can't even remember the last time I did!
