Everyone seems to love the GeForce FX card....If you ask me it looks live every other GeForce Card released in the past 2 years, except is says FX on it.....2 minutes in Painshop and I can make my GeForce 4 look like that card <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> If only painshop could make it perform like it...then I'd be on to something <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

LOL. That's not the point, we're always taken in awe of the card when we first look at it. LOL, I remember when I first laid eyes on my MSI GF3... I was very excited... Now when I look at it, I'm like what a POS. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

You don't get excited about computer hardware Shiznit? It doesn't turn me on like my gf does, but I do feel anxious to get it installed to try new games. If you consider yourself an enthusiast, you've got to get excited over something right?

Of course I love to read about up and coming hardware advances. You should know this I bug you about articles like that all the time. The only thing I hate about new hardware is installing it. Trouble shooting technical problems is such a pain in the ass. Ya never know when your gonna get stuck with bad IDE cables, and how often to you consider them to be part of the problem? I know that the GeForce FX is supposed to be one bad ass VC, but right now I'm more interested in what ATI's response to it is going to be.

The MSI Press release is intersting. The thing that really interests me is the information about memory bandwith.. Most articles I've read about the GeForce FX center around the fact that only possible way an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro will be the new FX in a benchmark is if it is memory intensive because it doesn't have the 256bit memory bus. This release from MSI says "It doesn’t stop there, NVIDIA’s GeForce FX boasts an enhanced, LightSpeed Memory Architecture 3 with one of the key additions being NVIDIA’s new color compression technology. This compression is completely loss-less, meaning there is no reduction in image quality of precision. As a result, memory bandwidth is used more efficiently, especially when anti-aliasing is enabled." Hopefully this is true. Early benchmarks show that this is not so much the case, but being as how those benchmarks were done on Beta boards, with beta drivers, the poor performance might be just that...beta. If this is new technology, it will take a while to get the drivers fine tuned.

LOL, dont' mind me... I was all pissed off yesterday. STUPID IWILL! <br><br><< <i> I'm more interested in what ATI's response to it is going to be. </i> >><br><br>Yes actually I am as well. The R350 is still on ATi's roadmaps and their R400 is suppose to be due out in the summer! The NV35 is suppose to be out by then as well! Exciting!!! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Too much going on....looks like owners of top video cards won't be at the top very long. Hopefully they (ati and nvidia) will keep that schedule. There is nothing more annoying than deleyed launch dates.

I would hope that it would be .13 micron. That will help them to better compete with nVidia and pump up the speed. I find it interesting that they use model numbers and not speed ratings. Not to bash Intel or anything because I'd never do that...If they released the NV30, they'd call it the Geforce 4 500Mhz <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Colin

<br><br><< <i>I would hope that it would be .13 micron. </i> >><br><br>I had hoped that myself, but to be honest after playing with a Radeon 9700 Pro for a little while now, I wouldn't be surprised to see ATi released their R350 on 0.15. The core still has a ton of potential left in it, I know many ppl with stock cooling that can hit 375-400 MHz core speed! Also it seems that the <b>retail</b> 9700 Pro's overclock a bit better. <br><br><< <i> Not to bash Intel or anything because I'd never do that...</i> >><br><br>Never! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I know that the Radeon 9700 PRO can reach speeds up to around 400Mhz. I don't mean to play the Mhz game, but that'll be 20% slower than nVidias 500Mhz. Most sites posting stats about the FX actually say >500Mhz depending on the model. I wouldn't be surprised if the fastest model can OC to 600Mhz.

From what I hear, the GeForceFX core is kinda using a P4 approach... While the core is clocked high, it isn't as efficient as the R300. <BR><BR>One of my biggest worries about the GeForceFX is how loud is that thing going to be... The cooler is similar to Abit's OTES and that thing is quite loud. No high pitch, but in terms of db it's just as loud as a 60 mm delta!

Hopefully the core shrink will help keep temps down. My Ti4200 gets hot enough as it is. I used to have a slot exhast fan and it worked pretty well for about a year before it started rattling. I think I'm going to get a new one. I have a whole list of mods I'm going to be before I go stickin a faster CPU in there. So far this case runs hotter than my last one. There isn't as much air intake, but I think the PS w/o exhaust is really the cause of most problems. The bottom fan on the PS works so it is blowing air into the PS and then hot air is coming right back out. If I stick my hand next to the PS exhaust I feel a slight breeze, but I'm almost positive that it's air going into the PS. The air circulation is all messed up. Once I get the Vantec I'm hoping my case cools by at least 10 degrees F.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Ya, it sounds like a bad PSU... The vantec is great, I love the adjustable fan RPM's! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> I'm sure that will solve your problem...<BR><BR>Ya, the GF4 Ti line of cards all get quite toasty. You know, the Thermaltake GeForce4 cooler is pretty good... You should try it if you can!

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Your right, the Vantec PS is pretty awsome. The 3 different fan speed settings are quiet awsome all by themselves.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
The thing I love about my testing Vantec 470W is, the voltages are way more stable then on my 550W Enermax! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Nobody really seems to sure if there will be multiple versions of the GeForce FX. I was just looking around the nVidia site and found that there will be two versions of the Quadro FX...the Quadro FX 1000, and the Quadro FX 2000.

cards like that are just major overkill and i think a waste of money, why spend 600-700$ on a video card when you can get one for like 200$ and will runs games and such at high fps

I dunno. I feel the same as you CompSnake, yet I always have the urge to buy the best board out there. Everyday is a struggle for me not to go out and buy any hardware. I need to be admited to like a Computer Hardware Detox Center <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I've looked all over the web and different sites (mostly german) to check out benchmarks of final GeForce FX cards (including the 5800 Ultra) and I'm sorry to say, but in general these cards are overpriced pieces of ************************. In my fav. game (UT2003) at the 1600x1200 res. I play at, the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra is 1 FPS Slower than the Radeon 9700 PRO. At stock speeds (wish I could remember the resolution) the FX only scored a 3DMark 2001SE score about 1800 higher than the Radeon 9700 PRO. It's a good thing your saving for a car Colin...hopefully you won't make a $500 donation to nVidia for one of these cards. I've now lost all interest in the cards because I feel the R350 is going to be much faster than the FX.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
To be honest while I was hoping for better performance out of the GeForceFX, I'm must say I'm not surprised. The Radeon 9700 Pro and GeForceFX after all are in the same generation. nVIDIA and ATi will be releasing their revised first generation DX9 GPU/VPU's shortly and they'll be releasing their next generation DX9 cores in teh summer!<BR><BR>I definitely will not be buying a GeForceFX, but I'll still do my best to get one for a contest! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Honestly I know if I were to win not that I'm expecting to or anything, I'd prefer a Radeon 9700 PRO. PCStats could afford to get 2 of them for the price of one GeForce FX. Here is a summary of the GeForce FX I got out of an article today....<BR><BR><i>"Lets review what we have here: It's half a year late, it takes up a PCI slot, sucks an enormous amount of power(minimum of 75 watts), runs extremely hot, and at last report, sounds like a Dustbuster, performs competitively with ATI's six-month-old Radeon 9700 Pro, and is expected to retail for $499."</i>

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
That's a good quote actually! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <BR><BR>I think nVIDIA may be having problems with teh GeForceFX 5800 Ultra because only 5 or so hardware sites got test samples!

After spending some serious time reading the Tom's Hardware review of the GeForce FX 5800 Ultra, I can't believe they concluded that it was an awsome card. This thing is a piece of ************************. Considering you can buy Radeon 9700 PRO's for less than $300, It is defintely not worth paying the extra $100-200 for a FX that may beat it out in a few benchmarks. No only will you be paying with a high financial cost, but you'll have much more noise/heat to deal with.
