Recently had a fresh install of Win98se. After installing the realtek network drivers I now have a massive 10sec+ hang in my boot process.....any idea's on how to speed things up?
Me welcome to PCStats!

Unfortunately there's no fix for this delay. You see, when you install a network card, while booting it sends out signals to the rest of the network (even if you're not connected) to see what's there.

Sorry man.

Yep! That's sped things up a little....
Can you tell me how to kill scandisc?
Thanks
ps. Also noticed while it's hanging I have Two 'c' prompts...is this normal?

Hey Me... That's pretty simple, go to Start and run. In there type MSCONFIG and press the ok button.

Now this next part I'm not sure because I haven't used Win98 in about a year and a half but there should be an advanced button. When you click that it'll bring up another window and there should be a check box "Disable Scandisk after bad shutdown" or something similar to taht. Obviously check that and Scandisk will no longer start up after a bad shutdown.

<< Also noticed while it's hanging I have Two 'c' prompts...is this normal? >>

You mean two command prompts? It shouldn't really matter... Is it running a program?

Scandisc killed! Thanks!
When booting up there's the 'verifying DMI'.... 'starting windows' followed by two dos 'C' promts, one under the other....?

Oh, that's nothing, there's a space in your Autoexec.bat... If you find that space delete it and that should go away as well.
