Hi Everyone! First post here! I was wondering if someone could recommend a Gamer's MB. Somewhere around $180.00 CAD. Thanks Zellar!

Hey Zellar, welcome to PCStats!

W00t, more Canadians! Zellar, are you going AMD or Intel?

epox 8k3a+ is a great board (its a bit on the old site though) .. the epox 8rda nforce 2 mobo is great as well ... those are both amd boards as well.

I'd suggest the MSI K7N2 (nForce 2). I use it and it has been great. Colin even wrote a review of it found the pcstats homepage. Some quotes from the article:

"the nForce2 is probably the best performing AMD chipset at the moment."

"Lastly, my biggest pet peeve with the board is that my finger is always knocking against the large brown capacitors near the P4 power connector." <--- What kind of bull************************ comment is that. One of the boards "Cons" is that the reviewer is clumsy. If you notice, that actual problem is the existance of the P4.
LOL! Ya, the K7N2 was an awesome board, I was pretty impressed with it.

Haha, always blame it on P4 eh?

Thanks everyone! But what is better AMD or Intel? I use to own one of those crappy IBM Netvista's. You couldn't upgrade it as the case was to small for a real MB. What a freaking JOKE!

I'm not fat, it's gladular! LOL, man I can't believe I broke my new years resolution already!

Zellar, it's difficult to say which is better, it really comes down to your needs and budget. Overall I'd say AMD is the better value but if you want pure performance and $$$ is not an issue, Intel is faster (albeit by a bit).

What do you plan to do with your computer?

I use my computer mostly for games. UT2003,Spearhead,AvP2,Hitman2,NOLF2 and Ripping PS2 games.(haha!) I have a low end GF4-440MX Vid. Card. Right now I'm running a P3-866MHZ a piece of crap PCchips MOBO. I was told by a computer tech. that my PCchips MOBO will only last about 5 yrs. I never knew there was best before date on MOBO's Haha! What a jerk! Anyway, thanks for all the input! Zellar

Zellar I'd go AMD if I were you... Like I said earlier, they offer the best value, if you get yourself a KT333 or nForce2 board and say a T-Bred 1700+ you'd be set. You could use your old videocard, the MX440 should be albe to hold you over till Doom 3 comes out, then you can get whatever is the best value at the time as well.

LOL, Motherboards do not have a best before date but to be honest I'd be surprised if that board lasts 5 years... PC Chips/Houston Tech/PC Wave they're all the same, low end cheap motherboards.
