Ok for the longest time my computer has been giving me this error before the Windows startup screen (using Win98):

Cannot find a device that may be needed to run Windows or a Windows application.

The windows registry or SYSTEM.INI file refers to this device, but the device file no longer exist.

If you deleted this file on purpose, try uninstalling the associated application using its uninstall or setup program.

If you still want to use the application associated with this device file, try reinstalling that application to replace the missing file.

fastpara.vxd
Press a key to continue

I don't recall deleting any file called that, or any program associated with a file called that. What does this error do and how could I fix it?
Polykranopalous did you uninstall something that uses the parallel port like a scanner or printer?

That error message is pretty easy to get rid of, just load up your SYSTEM.INI file and search for taht fastpara.vxd string and delete it.

I just ran the SYSTEM.INI file and searched for it, but could not find the string
Hmm... I guess it's in the registry then... First back up your registry then you can try removing fastpara.vxd from any registry entries...

So did you uninstall any software that use the parallel port?
