Hello,

I upgraded my OS from Win98SE to WinXp Pro. My system originally had 98Se (that was upgraded from the full version of 98). I upgraded to XP Pro (after three attempts due to various problems). The final time, I wound up getting a menu to choose between XP and Windows (previous version) during boot-up. Is there any way to get rid of the Windows option so that my system boots directly to XP? If I need to, I will re-do my hard drives again and reinstall everything (as I do not have any data files yet).

Thanks!

H.
Hey Hansaman!

That's pretty easy to fix. Right click on the My Computer icon, go to Properties and from there click the Advanced tab. In the lower third of the window you should see the Startup and Recovery, click the Settings button there. When that window opens just uncheck the Time to display list of operating systems: and you'll no longer see that boot up menu.

Thanks Colin!

Worked like a champ!!

Any idea how to fix my Norton Systemworks 2002 problem? I installed it (full suite), ran Live Update until there were no more updates (rebooting as necessary), then my Norton Antivirus icon in the systray keeps getting X'ed out (not enabled). I manually try to enable and keep getting a java scripting error message. I have uninstalled and then reinstalled the program three times!!!

Thanks!

H.

Colin,

I went to the Symantec website last night and found a seven page set of procedures for "correcting" this problem. It involved removing the program from the computer, then editing the registry, then doing a clean boot, then reinstalling the program. Everything worked fine until I ran Live Update until there were no more updates (as recommended by Symantec). Problem reappeared. Might be something buggy in their updates. Thought about upgrading to 2003 but if you have the same problem, I will not bother. It seems to only affect the Antivirus portion.

H.
Hansaman thanks for letting me know. Aww damn, what a pain in the ass...
