Let's just say this person has software that requires an administrative password to do even
the simplest things like, install downloaded software programs blah blah, or even
run a disk defrag or scandisk, and this ahem..person is really irritated about it and he...uhh this
person wants to know if and how to get around it.
Anyone ever had this issue?

My wish comes true.

Desktop Support is coming to reinstall my OS today. This virus turns out to be "uncleanable" thus
requiring a complete format.
I doubt the new OS (Win2KPro) will have those limitations. (crossing fingers)
I have my fingers crossed for you!!

Finger crossing works. No more limitations!
Evedently in the orig. OS. Something they didnt bother to implement when they reformated.

oh happy Day!
normally to escape that hypothetical situation...you would easily log in as root with a default command. hypothetically this allows you to change user attributes. a feature nicely built in by M$ proving that even large companies build trapdoors.

the difficult thing in your hypothesis is finding yourself the correct default for your version of software.
