$399 for the 128MB Version....I'd prefer a 256MB card, just because not many peeps have one. I'm wondering if this is going to be like the Geforce 3 Card. Originally it was just the GeForce 3, then they made the Ti500, and Ti200.

Hmm... I'm not sure which one I would get, I guess the one that is clocked higher.

Shiznit, the GeForceFX is probably going to be a short lived GPU... The NV35 is suppose to be announced in the summer.

Haha... Ya, I know what you mean... In TO, with the wind chill, it feels like -18 degrees Celsius or -4F! I hate the cold...

Well then, your advice then might be to wait a bit and see where things settle out with GeforceFX and when nV35 might be released?

Later.......

Nice heads up. I won't get one of them until the prices come down anyway. I'll wait until I'm building my nextgen PC. Until then, my present PC gives me perfectly fine frame rates in "Max Payne" and "MOHAA".

Hopefully the R350 will beat the hell out of the GeForce FX.

Well this is my advice to potential new videocard buyers... DO NOT GET THE GEFORCEFX. Yes it'll probably beat the Radeon 9700 Pro in most thing, but it's going to be a short lived GPU. NV35 is on its way in teh summer as well as the R400. The R350 will be a band aid solution to deal with the GF FX which should be out very soon as well!

ONE ALMOST WONDERS if the 3dfx technology Nvidia swallowed just over two years ago is now choking them on its way to market. First the GeForce FX was delayed. Then it was delayed again. Nvidia finally demoed the card at Comdex in November to what ultimately was a rather tepid reception.
If one strictly focused on Nvidia's own development, the card was a definite jump from the GeForce4 line, but compared to ATI's 9700 it tasted a bit like an also-ran. True, the GeForce FX does outpace the Radeon 9700 in some key areas, and yes, it will likely be faster-or-as-fast, but it certainly doesn't look like the ATI-killer many people expected.

It's also apparently quite loud, leading to it being nicknamed the Dustbuster over at Tech-Report. Much has been made of NV30's .13 micron technology -- and how it should allow for better scaling than ATI's .15 -- but I've got to wonder. If Nvidia's .13 micron wonder needs a vacuum cleaner for a cooling system and ATI's .15 micron doesn't, that seems to say something about the relative heat production of each system, and potentially about the scalability as well.

Now we've got news that Nvidia themselves is going to handle all NV30 PCB and GPU production, selling only the finished product to vendors for final packaging and sale. It's not clear yet how this will affect the GeForce FX market, but it could potentially impact prices, available features, PCB colors, and overall product differentiation.

Nvidia must be quite worried about quality control to take such a step in controlling its own product line. One of the ways smaller manufacturers get by selling at lower prices is the quality and types of components they use on a board—will we see these companies squeezed out or consolidated by larger ones by Nvidia's pricing?

Too early to tell at the moment, but it's not a good sign. Large, powerful designs have great appeal, but too much complexity can cripple even the mightiest R&D department. Anyone doubting that can ask Intel about Itanium's original-vs-actual shipping date. All the signs we've seen thus far — the delays, the extremely loud cooling system, the card's overall failure to definitively take the lead, its PCB size, and now, Nvidia's full control over manufacturing imply that something is rotten in FX-Faerie-Land.

The decline of 3dfx is always said to have begun when they purchased their own manufacturing facility and cut off their third party vendor relationships. Nvidia hasn't gone nearly that far, but by taking full responsibility for product manufacture and validation they are assuming additional cost and complexity. Lets hope they haven't bitten off more than they can chew

Source: Inquirer.net

Haha... It would be funny if what killed 3dfx (videocard delays) kills nVIDIA...

lol...don't even joke like that. Compitition is good for us...we need nvidia and ATI to keep fighting eachother
