Your probably best off waiting about a month for Intels next chipsets which support the 800Mhz FSB, and Dual DDR. If you were to buy a board now it wouldn't be upgradable for very long as it would only support the 533Mhz FSB, and Single Channel DDR does no provide the bandwith the P4 needs. Once Dual Channel DDR is available, it will be the end of the road for Rambus.

Maybe you should look into an AMD based system. If your going to wait a month for the chipset, it will be nearing the time that AMD Clawhammer (Athlon 64) is released, and so far it looks as if this summer the Athlon will reign as the fastest CPU available. Just a suggestions.
Hey BartAfterDark...

What's yoru budget? It's very difficult to say what to get if we don't know that...

LOL @ Shiznit always with the AMD... But BartAfterDark he has a point, if you're tight perhaps you should consider AMD...

Let us know how much you want to spend and what you're goign to be using it for and we'll give you our suggestions.

Slowly I will convert people. Some people just need a little bit of help seeing the light. Just think of me as an AMD Optomitrist.
I didn't say go AMD I simply said if BartAfterDark was on a budget he should consider AMD!

My budget is about 859,69 $ for the whole system (motherboard, Processor, Ram, Case)

// Lars

You are clearly looking for an AMD System. You can still get a good system for that amount of money. I'd look for parts for you, but I'm at work right now, so maybe later

i'm still looking for a Intel.

I ONLY need the stuff i typed. Not anything else. (i have the rest)

I'll first get the computer in april.
Because i'm turning 18. (I will get some money) ;-)

BartAfterDark currently the best DDR board IMO is the Abit IT7 MAX2 Rev2 (i845PE). I just got one myself and it overclocks like mad and it's very well equipped too!

BartAfterDark if you can wait though I would... Intel is releasing a few new P4 chipsets in the next couple of months and they should be substantially faster then what's out there right now.

The board hasn't to be with intel chips.
Only the processor has to be intel.

Colin, when will does new boards be out?
BartAfterDark SiS is really on the ball these days with their P4 chipsets but they're a little lacking in performance. VIA has no official license for P4 chipsets although to be honest from what I have seen they're pretty good.

The i845 based chipsets are all solid performers (aside from the original i845 SDRAM one) and to top things off, they overclock well too!

Rumor has it that Intel will be releasing the Springdale (along with the 3.2 GHz P4) in or around Feb 10th, whether that's true or not I don't know yet. Springdale is the desktop DC DDR P4 chipset and all boards based on it will be faster then the fastest i845PE/GE board. Canterwood is the higher performance DC DDR chipset that will come out a little after Springdale... Both of the new chipsets support the 800 MHz FSB P4's as well.
Colin, I saw your reply above about the SIS chipsets. Just saw where MSI is comming out with a SIS655 board. Wondered if you knew much about it and what's you thoughts in general about SIS, VIA vs Intel chipsets. I've seen quite a bit about a difference in stability and performance.

If any of this is repetative sorry. Just trying to gleen you guys minds.........
Haha... Farmer, dont' worry about it!

Not much is known about the SiS 655 chipset honestly, from my friend at OCWorkbench I hear it's suppose to be pretty fast comparable to Granite Bay but it has poor HDD performance and does not overclock well. Stability was suppose to be pretty good, but then again he only tested the board for a few hours.

Personally myself, I would only buy a mobo with an Intel chipset for P4's...
