Black Cat, go to Bootdisk.com and download the Win98SE bootdisk and it'll have a format command on it. Use that to format and you can reinstall Win98SE.

You can't load WinXP from DOS - can only load from CD. Need to enter BIOS/1st boot/CDROM drive & restart PC.
DOS only works in Win98 & WinME.

Iceman,
WinME is far inferior to Win98SE, so it is really an upgrade, not a downgrade.

Black Cat,
Here is hopefully a working link to bootdisk.com (you can also type this in the address bar - LOL).
Another way to get one is, if you have an active copy of WinME, right click my computer and choose properties (sorry this is from memory, and I haven't used ME in about 6 months). I believe the last tab in that window will create a boot disk for you.
As for DOS in WinXP, it really can't be done. You really do have to have a bootdisk from a 9x/ME OS to get there for FDisk utilities.

The thing that proved to me HP was really clueless about computers was when they told me I shouldn't dual boot my HP and that WinME was the best OS for this pile of soon-to-be crushed tin. If working "best" is not hardly working at all, then no one I know will willingly buy an HP ever again (unless they are truly brain-dead). If all they can say is that the POS "should" work with a full 512Mb PC100 SDRAM without changing/modding anything (BIOS or MB), and they don't give you the option of updating anything in the BIOS, but it causes the system to fail to boot or BSOD as soon as you try to open any program, something is seriously wrong. They tried to tell me my SDRAM was bad, when both 256 sticks worked just fine solo or in combination with the 128 that came with it, they run fine in an Abit MB of earlier release, and every software mem-tester I've run them with shows everything is functioning correctly.

ditch the win9X shell and go XP it's free on certain filesharing programs but be warned it's illegal to d/l it
Warning: WinXP does not support a large number of older games if you are a gamer. One of my biggest disappointments was shelling out $30 for Red Faction and not being able to use it.

I think you should be able to just make a start up disk for windows me and just reboot. I think to make a start up disk in windowsME you go to into control panel and then remove/install software now you should see a tab to make the disk.

Rithemking, I've not had problems with XP and Red Faction, the only older game I've had problems with is Doom, it lags a bit but Heretic and Wolfenstein3d don't I run Red Faction in 98 compatibility mode.
