View Full Version : Radeon PRO 9700 or Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128 8X
I'm trying to decide on what video card to buy for internet and games. I really like Nvidia stuff I like the 8X AGP support, but should i get the 9700 Pro? I don't need the All in wonder, I won't do any TV or anything like that.

Thanks

Cayman

depends on you budget really... check this page (scroll half way down to see chart) out its Gamespots hardware page. It compares the best cards out on the market. The 9700 Pro is much better than the Ti 4200, but is also a little more expesnsive. Like I said before it all depends on your budget, if you don't want to spend a whole lot of money on a card, than I'd recommend getting the Ti42000 because it still is an amazing card
The Ti4200 is still a fast card, but it's nto the best budget GPU around anymore... Cayman, the best value is probably the Radeon 9500 Pro (assuming you don't want to mod the card). Polykranopalous raises a good question, how much do you want to spend? If $$$ is not an issue, get the 9700 Pro, it's the fastest on the market right now.

sounds like a good rig even for an Intel...

(You could save yourself some money by going with AMD...P4 2.4ghz in Canadian dollars is like $330, while the AMD ATHLON XP 2100+ in canadian dollars is only like $168, hmmm not sure though if AMD proccessors runs faster than an Intel cpu, theres one for Colin to answer!)
Cayman go for the Radeon 9700 Pro then. It's a wicked videocard and should last you a year.

Polykranopalous both processors will run about the same in benchmarks.

Very nice system you got there. I guess it's okay that you go with Intel. The last 5 people to join the forum have been AMD, so if 1 new Intel rig is added into the mix, it's no big deal. Kind of funny how AMD has like 20% of the overall market share, but they have at least 60% market share in these forums

lol. Ours were old, but not that told. Of course I graduated over 2 years ago. At the time they were PIII 500's. Pretty close to the top of the line at the time. The best may have been 800Mhz to 1Ghz.

Our school I think mostly has P3's 800mhz (could be wrong about the speed)...but alst year in my business class we had P1's, they may have even been 486, not too sure because by the time the damn computer started up and you opened a program the class basically only had 20minutes left.
LOL,w hen I was in high school I was still using 386's and 486's!!!

At my university though we're all using P4's and I must say it's a total waste of funds!

I hate to say this, but when I went to electronics trade school in 81/82 we had all brand new 8086 IBM PCs with PCDOS 1.0!. These things had one 360K 5 1/4 in. floppy and no hard drive. They had 64K of ram and we were told that was way more than one would ever need. The price was a cool $3500.00. Once they would boot on the floppy, we would load BASICA and we were set to go. There was no CGA yet either, just monochorme.
excuse me. that was 8088, not 8086
! Damn lmpb that must have been scary! Welcome to PCStats btw!

ohhhh, don't want to confuse the performance of a 8088 with a measly 8086. As far as that being the fastest thing you'd ever need, I'd say if you were an Intel user, that was a good statement. All though the P4 now runs at 3+Ghz, the performance is about the same.
