Damn!!!! I shutdown my comp to add something and then when I put it together and rebooted, It erased my progress on my Protein again. WTF!!!! Well my lead was short lived

Colin

I'm having problems myself, I left this morning with a new protein with 0% done and when I come home it's still 0%! WTF?!?

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
That's what happened to me last time.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Well I'm playing with teh configuration settings... If I figure it out, I'll let ya know...

Eventually!

lol...I have a tweak of my own I haven't let you in on yet until I determine if it does speed up performance

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Oh... Gonna play that way huh?

Avid6eek

lol...Gonna play that way? Who here has to fire up multiple rigs just to stay in the running

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Damn...only 20% done since I restarted. At this rate it won't finish until 2:00AM. I am one protein ahead of what my stats say I am, but I think it's like that for everyone. Once I finish this protein it will give me credit for the last one.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Since I came home I have only finished 9%...

I'd like to welcome recycle to our Folding@home team too!

Thanks man!

Avid6eek

Welcome recycle. well I'm only at 24% now. I paused work while I played UT2003.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Shiznit does Folding@Home affect your performance? When I'm playing Raven Shield I don't have any problems...

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Not that I've really noticed. I think it only utilizes idle cpu cycles.

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Chuggin along at 45%

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Damn, I'm only at 26% and I've been working since I came home about 4 hours ago!

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
My percentage lead is up on yours. LOL. Hopefully you just have a bigger protein because I know your system with it's CPU that's 1.3Ghz faster couldn't possibly be losing to my lil old AMD Processor.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
LOL. Well your IPC is higher...

Avid6eek

Lets not here any excuses......1.3Ghz.....Ghz are all that matter to you Intel folks!

Edit: Just to let you know I just got out of UT2003 from my last 46% post, and I'm at 50%....still processing while I'm in UT, just not nearly as fast

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
LOL... Shiznit, I would have expected better from you!

All well informed Intel users like myself do know that MHz is not everything!

Oh, btw I'm not using my test rig to crunch #'s either! I'm using my main rig which is just a lowly P4 1.8A at 2.4... Forgot to mention that earlier!

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Your 2.4Ghz should keep up with my 2400....they are the same speed rating. I'd love to see how a Hammer would do with this since they were designed for server type work.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
To be honest Shiznit, I would say the XP 2400+ is slightly faster then the P4 2.4B...

Not in all things. They both have their favorite things to run. Intel can run benchmarks faster, but the Athlon can run real world applications faster

There's an Intel conspiracy. If I worked for MadOnion and an intel exec said to me I'll give you a million dollars if you build your benchmark to favor my processors...I'd do it. Then all the gamers see how "good" Intel processors are so they buy them, and Intel earns more than their million back. I'm telling you, that's how it works.

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
The conspiracy didn't start until the Northwood. Intel knew their processor sucked, so they paid off the benchmark makers and added a lil more L2 Cache and claimed the added Cache lead to the added performance. In reality, they are the same old ************************ty processors.

You can get the best defense lawyer out there....the conspiracy exists. Under your name you should replace "speed freak" with "conspired performance".

I think we need to rename the website PC(while folding)stats. All these messages just for a tiny little program! But WTH, its fun. I have my laptop on 24/7 folding away, and i have lost threads, crashed out, froze up, had blue screens and all kind of probs, but i still have the F@H loaded and running! I think the program was designed by a Linux freak that wanted to wreck all MS operating systems! (and I bet he was running an AMD as well!) LMAO

You guys aren't going to be killing anything. Intel Roadmaps show that in Q4 this year they will be running at 3.4Ghz, while AMD will be releaseing the 3700 during this summer, then in Q4 they'll be releasing the 4000. That is quite a gap in the speed forcasts coming from both processors.

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
There is no reason why they can't. They are doing quite well with the .13Micron Process, and the Hammer will be running cooler than it's Intel counterparts. They will still be working in the sub 3.0Ghz area all year so I don't think they are going to have any problems doing it.

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Well initial Northwood Pentium 4's were not that great in terms of overclocking but not quite as bad as the first generation Thoroughbred's...

As for AMD, once Hammer starts to catch on I sure hope Dresden can keep up!

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Dresden has been manufacturing viable Hammers for over a month now. The stock piles should be pretty big to keep up with initial demand. Hopefully once those stock piles run low, yeilds will increase enough to maintain a healthy supply. If they can't it will cause prices to rise and AMD will be making a nice profit for once

Colin
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Hmm... Very true, I didn't think about what happens when supply runs low.

I hope it doesn't run too low though, they may lose potential customers!

Man, I cna't wait till Hammer arrives!!!

Avid6eek
06-15-04, 01:25 PM
Neither can I. I'm expecting to build my hammer system in Mid-June. Hopefully with the Athlon 64 3700+. Depending on prices of course, I may use the 3400+.

So much for that Hammer system this summer! By the time they come out in September now I'll be just starting back at school and won't have the time/money to be building a system until sometime around XMas. I can always ask for 1 component from everyone who buys me presents. From Colin, I would like the AMD processor

Getting back to the thread...I've been disconnected twice in the past couple days.
