Windows 2k Professional don't let me play the PC games (few non-3D PC games). Why?
All wins do is shut down my games after I start them.

non-3D PC Games:
Redneck Rampage series
Star Trek: Armada

Are there another ways to get the games working without Windows stop them?

those games are most likely not compatible with the nt kernal. so meaning most likely it will not work with nt4 or winxp either. its probaly only win95, 98, 98se, and me compatible.

It looks like I going to pick up Windows ME verison setup.
Is Windows ME verison coming as Home or Pro edition?
Will ME os working with latest released PC games?

There is only one version of WinME. There are updates to it available from Microsoft through Windows Update (on your computer via Start > Programs> Windows Update). WinME is a step backward from Win2K Pro. You might want to check is there are new versions of your games that are not working or patches available for download that will make them work with 2K or WinXP. Stepping down to WinME from 2K is pretty drastic. 2K is much more secure and stable than ME.

GardenIguana does your games drop back to desktop? Can you run 3DMark?

It may not be a problem with the OS, I know Star Trek: Armada works with WinXP just fine...

My sister gave me a used computer that must have WinXP(?) but it's in my other sister's house until she would bring it to me when she visiting me. I will give it a try.

Another question: Does Win 2000 Pro with 3d card installed will let non-3d games playable?

Hmm, another user had a similar problem... When a 3D application drops back to desktop, that's usually a problem with system memory... Are you overclocking? Did you tweak your memory timings?

Download 3DMark2001SE and see if it will finish a complete test. This is a 3D benchmark that does run in Win2k.

<< Does Win 2000 Pro with 3d card installed will let non-3d games playable? >>

No, you should be able to play games jsut fine... Your OS may be screwed up, or you may have a hardware problem somewhere...

winxp is basically winxp. its just a improved version of the nt kernal with lots of eycandy and some new features. so you probaly will have the same problems in win2k .. but there is still a possibility that you wont.

Ed what games are you trying to play? If it's asking for a VGA based videocard that must be a damn old!

Uh....Does some win95/98 games more likely working with winXP?

Speaking of Star Trek: Aramada...I found good deal on Star Trek: Action Pack at Gurnee Mills. I'm now happy with that game pack. But I don't have 3D card to support the games. Too bad.

GardenIguana it's difficult to say which older games work with XP. Your best bet is to visit the developers site and see if they say it's compatible.

In the event that it hasn't fixed it you can use the compatability wizard which usually works about 95% of the time.

I tried my win95/98 games on winXP...it worked. "Compatability Wizard" program now is my hero!

I had Win2K once, but I didn't like it for compatibility, and there was a glitch. Later I got XP (Home, unfortuneately), and all my programs were compatible. And the glitch was still there, but I got that fixed.
