Is there anyway to keep WinXP from automatically loading a driver for new hardware so that drivers that come with hardware can be installed as the default? I have an Epson printer that has a WinXP/Win2K certified driver available for download from Epson. I have downloaded and installed it. However, as soon as I turn on my printer (as instructed during the install procedure), WinXP sees it and installs its own version of the driver. This may not sound like a big deal but there are certain functions that are not available to me via the WinXP enbedded driver.

This issue arose because I bought a new flatbed scanner (Visioneer 9020USB) to replace a Visioneer 5300 that will not work under WinXP. One of the main features I used on the old scanner was the Copy/Print one touch button (scans and then sends directly to printer). Copies made with the 5300 were near perfect copies of the original. Copies made on the new scanner basically suck. Visioneer tech spt told me to download the latest printer driver. I did that. But, ..... see above.....

Thanks!

H.

Hansaman you can force windows to use the driver you want.

First go to your System Properties then click the hardware tab. From there click on the device manager button and a new window should pop up. Inside there, go to your device and open it up. Now select the Driver tab and go to update driver. Chose the Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and then point Windows to your driver and follow the instructions.

That should be it!

Thanks Colin,

I think this would work under normal circumstances, but in my copy of WinXP Pro, my printer is not listed under the Hardware Manager Tab. Not a problem though. I fixed what I need to anyway. I did discover however that replacing the native WinXP driver for my scanner with a new one from the company was not successful. Even had Visioneer tech spt on the phone while I attempted. That too is no longer a problem. What I want to work, works!

Thanks!

H.

Oh... Well I'm glad everything works even though I was not much help!
