hey, sorry I haven't posted in while.
I bought this computer recently and it came with a VIA Mainboard P4X266 series, that's what I was told anyway by my manufacturer and when my computer boots up It say's Via(I even got a VIA manual with my computer), but I was using 3dMark2001SE and I checked my computer specs and it says I have a MSI MS6536 mainboard with Via chipsets and I checked with Sandra 2002 and it says the same thing.
My problem is that when I upgrade my driver's should I download MSI or VIA driver's
and when I upgrade my BIOS should I download MSI or VIA BIOS
also if I do need to download MSI driver's could you please tell where I can get them from.

Thanks in Advance for your help(hopefully I can help you in the future).

Heres my guess
The P4X266 would just be stating your FBS speed on that msi board, which has a via chipset
but knowing me, im probally wrong, colin or shiznit will correct me if im wrong (hopefully)
Glockillusion for drivers, you should go to VIA Arena to download your drivers... The VIA 4in1's will work with any mainboard as long as you have a VIA chipset.

As for your mobo, does it look like any of the boards shown on VIA's website? Look on the right hand side and scroll down to VIA P4X266.

It is possible that MSI manufactured that board since VIA does not have any fab's themselves, but for support you'll still have to go to VIA.

Thanks CompSnake and Colin for your help.
Colin I couldn't find my Mainboard on that site, I found a similar Mainboard but it wasn't the same one(I can not find my Mainboard MSI MS-6536 anywhere I even looked for it in Google), do you know a good site for getting bios updates for my Mainboard
Glockillusion do you have a digital camera or scanner? I need to see what that mobo looks like before I can help. I was not able to find the MS-6536 on MSI's website either...

Are you having a particular problem that requires you to update your BIOS?

<< Glockillusion do you have a digital camera or scanner? >>

I have a scanner, but it doesn't matter because I finally found my mainboard, it's a VIA P4XB-M(the card description doesn't mention anything about it being made by MSI, but it looks the same as my Mainboard) the picture is below if it works(My mainboard is very small).

<< Are you having a particular problem that requires you to update your BIOS? >>

Sandra 2002 recommended upgrading my BIOS because my SMBIOS/DMI information may be inaccurate
Glockillusion are you having problems with your system? Disregard what Sandra says, every motherboard that I have tested gives the same "error".

sorry for the really late reply but I couldn't get back onto pcstats until today, I tryed everyday since my last post but I kept getting an error saying that it could not find PcStats(every other site worked)

T

<< Glockillusion are you having problems with your system? >>

No I'm not.

When upgrading the mainboard BIOS with the Award BIOS flash utility after it's finished and it ask what to save it as, does it matter what you save it as.

<< Disregard what Sandra says, every motherboard that I have tested gives the same "error". >>

okay I will. Thanks for your help.

I have a question about whether I should change my soundcard or keep it, which part of the forum should I post it in.
Glock .. you should only update your bios if you absolutely need it .. since your system is running fine there is no need to update it. updating the bios can be a very risky procedure to do.

but if you still want to update your bios .. YES! save the old bios on a floppy. but like i said i wouldnt suggest updating your bios unless its absolutely needed. you wont notice any performance increase by doing this if thats what you are thinking.

i always save my bios as oldbios ... but no it doesnt matter what you save it as.
Glockillusion if you have a question about your soundcard, post it in the Other Hardware forum...

Haha, I guess you don't read my site/forum announcements huh? We were moving servers on the wknd, that's why the forum was down.

<< Haha, I guess you don't read my site/forum announcements huh? >>

Actually I do, I saw that info about moving the server on the weekend straight after I posted that message, sorry I didn't read forum announcements first.

<< i wouldnt suggest updating your bios unless its absolutely needed >>

I have already updated it, I updated it on friday straight after I got the error from Sandra 2002, then Colin said to disregard what Sandra 2002 said(I should waited longer before I updated my BIOS). I only asked what to save it as because I wanted to make sure I hadn't saved it as the wrong file.

Thanks Pimpin Joe and Colin.
