Increasing Transistor density should happen according quicker and quicker now that AMD has started with giving CPU's more functions that just that of processing (mem controller and all). I still think my estimate may be a little high. There is no way there will be 10+Ghz CPU's in 2005. If there are, they will be all Mhz, and no performance. They will perform on par with AMDs 3Ghz processors

For some reason I don't think Intel will make 10.2Ghz in only 2 years. That is way ahead of Moore's law, and we're not even keeping up to that anymore. By 2005 my estimate would be between 6-7.0Ghz.

I can just image the kind of cooling AMD will have to include with a 3GHz+ CPU. Mini fridges for everyone...to cool your AMD CPUs and your beer.

The AMD Athlon 64 2400 runs a lot cooler than the Pentium 4 2.2Ghz. Higher performance, lower temps. There's a first for an AMD Processor. AMD will now have the cool systems, and Intel owners will be ******************************in their systems run hot

By the time these systems start heating up at the end of next year with the Athlon 64 4000+, AMD will be switching to the .09 micron process. Hopefully it will go over better than the T-Bred A.
Guys! This is an Intel thread, away with the AMD talk!
Bah, speed and more speed. If you want some real speed, pop some methamphetamines.

I think AMD and Intel should calm down with the speed race and work on making their chips generate much less heat. Worrying about cooling is annoying and just adds noise and cost to the overall system. Or is that impossible/too difficult?

Teh Hammer should run much cooler so that's good news.
