I have the Abit KT7a I know I know kinda out dated...But it runs so well n fast I have 1 stick of Mushkin High rev3+ 256megs of ram n its overclocked to 145...At the time i bought this motherboard the DDR mobo's where so expensive not to mention the DDR memory...Along with my Gainward golden sample
Gforce3..It runs n plays any game as smooth as silk...At this time i dont see the need to upgrade...
N thanks for the welcome...

Ahh Quake 2... That brings back a lot of memories!

Was a huge Q2 player back in first year university, lol I almost flunked out of school cuz of that game!

I'll definitely check it out, but I don't have much time at the moment... It's bookmarked though.

will that fit on any mobo? or is it a special fitting HSF
For those who are wondering, here's a link.

CompSnake, I would think the Volcano 11 would fit on the MSI K7N2 jsut fine. The CPU socket on that board is very spacious.

Personally though I don't like Thermaltake products much myself, I find them a bit gimmicky.

i was thinkin about gettin it. it'd probally keep my cpu nice and cold

what one would you suggest for oc'ing then? im gonna over clock my 1600+ as high as i can possibly get it
That depends... CompSnake what's y our budget ono a HSF?

i dunno, 150$
$150?!? If you have that much to spend get yourself something better like a Swiftech MCX462 and a TT Smart Fan 2... Or maybe a Thermalright SLK-800!

Those hsf combo's will be much better then the Volcano 11!
The SLK 800 is louder than my 12amp vacuum.

noise is an issue here to
im also considering a water system but i'd want some input first
like the Thermaltake Aquarius ll, is that crap or is it good?
comp .. if you are looking for good cooling but quite. well your going to have to give a little take a little in this case.

if you are looking for a very quite watercooling system i would suggest the koolance setups. they are not the best watercooling out there but they do get the job done. and do it very quite. personally I would stay away from anything thermaltake (except the smart fan 2) you are not going to get great cooling with any active air heatsink with slower and less cfm fans out there. ther thermalright slk-800 is pretty much the best heatsink out there at the moment. also with good 80mm fans on them they cool the north bridge to due to there being a decent size gap between the fins of the heatsink and the fan. If you want excellent water cooling, i would suggest check out dangerden.com products. they are some of the best out there.

but i will tell you right now, you are not going to get a good watercooling setup for 150. actually i doubt you can even get one for that. you will be looking at around 200-400usd (not sure what that is in canadian) for a good - great watercooling setup.

i knew you'd come crawling back, haha j/k
good to see you didnt leave
thanx, i guess then im gonna ahve to deal with the noise, meeh, it's all good
roy, the fan that I suggested with teh SLK-800 can be adjusted and when it's set to quiet mode, it's actually almost dead silent!

CompSnake, team the SLK-800 with an adjustable fan and you'll be set.

Pimpin Joe is right though you won't be able to find a good water setup for that price so it's not worth your while...

umm if its on slient mode then it wont be doing much cooling will it, wouldnt it be spinning at low rpm??

<< umm if its on slient mode then it wont be doing much cooling will it, wouldnt it be spinning at low rpm?? >>

i think at low speed that fan pushes like 35-45 cfm ... i could be wrong though .. not sure on the actual specs of it. but that is still a good amount of airflow to keep it cool

are you sure? my volcano 6cu does 32CFM at 4500rpm
larger fans dont need to spin as fast to push as much air as the smaller ones do

My valcano 6 does 5400rpm's n keeps my over clocked athlon 1700+ at 39c
I just saw this air duct on TT's site. You think that it would work? It's supposed to increase efficiency and decrease noise. It makes sense.. but ehhh, I am skeptical.

Colin, I didn't realize the SLK had an adjustable fan. Sorry, I was just curious as to how loud it was so I checked the review on the pcstats site and listened to the WAV file. I had to turn my speakers down cause it was so loud. Haha...

PS. A good quality sink is CoolerMaster HSC-V62. Skived Copper, adjustable fan from 1500-6000 I believe. Can't go wrong
compsnake.... personally i use a Vantec Aeroflow for my T-bred 2100+ and it's OCed to 2600+ right now. with the temperature that it is running (45 C full load) it still has a lot more room left for overclocking. and it's very quiet compare to most other overclocking HSF's. my power supply is even louder than it. honestly i can barely hear it from outside of the case. it's copper based together with aluminum. i am not traying to say that it's the best HSF but i think you should really look into it. it's definitely one of the most quiet overclocking HSF.

also as important as a good HSF. the case airflow is very important too. make sure you have a good airflow to coop with a good HSF

im gonna get speakers before i get one now
NINGrumpy welcome to PCStats!

What motherboard are you using dude because most AMD boards do not take temperature readings from the internal diode.

roy, the TT Smart Fan 2 is the only Thermaltake product I like... It's an awesome heatsink, at full load it's almost as powerful as my Vantec Tornado!

Howard BAM! I hvae told you this before, you're running XP 2700+ speeds!
but colin... it's 2600+...at least that's what my bios posts, windows posts and what new egg posts.. 2.13 Ghz 2600+!!
you also now have the SLK-900 to choose from now

it also bolts to your mother board

oppps Forgot to mention my data rate 2x140MHz(280MHz data rate) not to shabby for a PC133 System...
NINGrumpy you should be able to do more then that... Did you unlock your processor? My old Iwill KK266-R would do about 166 MHz with my Apacer PC133 SDRAM (which used the same DRAM as Mushkin Rev3).

Mushkin makes some awesome stuff that's for sure. I'm a huge Mushkin fan!

Ya, I know that board is KT133A, so is the Iwill KK266-R.
