Ok guys, I just got an AGP video card (radeon 7000 or something like that) like you told me to. I popped her on in and started her up and I'm still getting nothing.
Here's what I got... once I power up the only thing that turn on is the fan to the heatsink, the hard drive LED (NO POWER LED), the bussy light on the CD-Rom (it will not open), and a second light on the motherboard. To turn it off the power button will not work, I have to shut her down at the power supply. I'm getting absolutely nothing on the monitor, no sounds/beeps, nothing. I don't have a cooling fan in there for now besides the heatsink, would this effect anything? I double checked all connections including IDE cables, ATX case cables, power supply, RAM (any specific slot I shold put 1 stick of RAM into?), CPU, the back of the case isn't grounding on athing either. (reset CMOS also).

Any suggestions, "I'm about to give up computers by the way"

well if u just plugged the video card in the agp slot, you need to keep your monitor pluggen into ur default one (the one u used before the new r7000) so that you can set the new card up

I could never get one working before this. I had an old PCI card off a Gateway 2000. The board did not come with a video card so there is no Default card.

????

How does anybody install a new video card if you have nothing on your monitor? Also, what is stopped the power LED from comming on, the heatsink fan works when I power up, and the HDD LED comes on, there are also 2 red lights lit up on the motherboard.

If this is the same problem you had before then the problem was obviously not the video card. I haven't the slightest idea what Poly is talking about. If the VC was the problem, when you put in the Radeon 9700 it should have worked fine. Does the Radeon 9700 have a direct connection to the PS like the pro version does? If so make sure that is plugged in. I see no reason why your CD-ROM isn't opening. The only thing it needs to open is power. If you know it works, and it isn't opening, then it is not getting power. does the fan on the back of the PS turn on when you power up the system?

Well the VC is a Radeon 7000, no it has no direct connection to the power supply. Here's another one I dont get... So I'm checkin out the problem with the CD-Rom, I unplug the IDE cable and leave only the power supply connected to the CD-Rom, then it opens and closes - But only when the "Tape Cable" is NOT connected.
Yes, the fan in the back of the power supply IS running.

sounds like your mobo might be dead.
and why did you get a radeon 7000? those are very very outdated and no better then my onboard video on my old board

LOL@CompSnake......your board doesn't have integrated graphics! As for you kazzy considering that your PS does start up (the fan runs) and it can open the CD-ROM drive the PS is okay. If you had bad RAM the system would still post to some kind of memory error. If the processor was no good, the CD-ROM would still open with the ribbon cable attatched. The only other component needed for your system to start is a Mobo, and since yours isn't starting, I'd look at your motherboard as the problem. The only way to fix that is to buy a new one.

kazzy1313 it sounds like your mobo may be defective... If it is, there's nothing you can do aobut it, why don't you bring it into your local computer store?

Will a "Best Buy" or a "Curcuit City" be ably to tell me if the mobo is dead or not?

I'm not familiar with the large US electronic stores, but if they're like the ones up here, yes they should be able to tell you if the motherboard is dead...

If I were you though, I'd take it to a smaller store like a mom and pop shop... They'd probably have better tech's.

I don't know where you live, but if there is a Fry's Electronics around you, they will test the mobo for you for free.

nobody`s mentioned wether this has been tried, take everything out cept mem - grfx - cpu, then boot, if it gives u display try putting 1 thing in at a time, is ur led connectors on right place ?, make sure ide ribbons r right way round as some connectors dont have lugs on them, if u dont know right way its red wire 2 pin 1. if nowt works throw it of tall building and hav some fun
