I'm having the hardest time overclocking my computer. All I'm even doing is upping the FSB, which i got to 140 before the comp said no. I do have my mem timings set fast (5-2-2-2) and i upped the voltage to 1.73 to the dimms.

I've tried to unlock my cpu but i've evidently failed.... I guess i'll just leave my xp2000 at xp2100 speeds... only 1759mhz.

I'm really disappointed in this rig, as far as overclocking goes.
256meg modules generally overclock better Standard ram doesn't really overclock very well, although my micron 2x256 oc'ed to 170 from 133
Are yu running that ram at CAS2, if so lower it to 2.5 and try then, aggressive timings may affect your score negatively if your ram can't handle it properly...
X-pider cases look pretty neat, I wanna hear what the cfm in that is? what temps are inside?
Using the 8RDA+ I'm not sure hat you need to unlock that palomino, although that may just work for t-breds. You could try cleaning off the cpu and seeing if you can change the multiplier then?
JLAudioFan, zaltec is right in general 512MB modules do not overclock quite as well as 256MB ones, but I have a feeling your processor may be holding you back especially considering you can't unlock.

Hey post some pictures of your new case for everyone to see! I'm sure they'd appreciate that...

zaltec the 8RDA+ cannot change teh multiplier of the Palomino based processor because the L1's are laser cut... For JLAudioFan to access the multiplier, he'd have to connect the bridges.
Ahhh, wasn't sure bout that...hmm, that sucks Guess it is try and try again then or just get a T-bred B 2100+ AIUHB
Have you tried upping the FSB with your memory settings as passive as they will go? It's best to use a microscope or magnifying glass to close the gaps as they are very hard to see and it's difficult to keep the conductive paint in a straight line. You might have accidentaly connected one of the bridges to the one next to it, that happened to me with my XP 1500+
What make is your ram? What cooling do you have on the northbridge and on the cpu? And lastly what is your PSU rated at?

when i change my memory timings i get memory errors
Compsnake, I don't think you have oc'ing RAM, it's prolly CAS2.5 and won't work @ CAS2. Try upping the voltage a bit and lowering the timings
JLAudioFan sorry about the late reply dude...

What brand memory are you using? Those memory timings you're using are very aggressive, you may need to raise the voltage to 2.9 to get it to run at those speeds properly! Also, are you running the memory faster then the FSB?

Lets see... I've got samsung pc3200 ram, single stick of 512. I have the memory running at the same speed as the FSB (the mem frequency is set at 100% speed of FSB)...

I'll try giving the mem a bit more juice got my new case today. It's a chieftec x-pider... I took pics (lots) and if you want a review, lemme know Talk about a wind tunnel, lol!

I havent been on all weekend 'cause i flew to tulsa to help a friend move to stl, and we got stuck 50 miles outside of tulsa on 44 and they shut down the highway after a semi plowed through the middle median and caused a 11 car pileup... Good thing we called the hotel when we did, 'cause we got the LAST room there (only hotel remotely close)...

Oklahoma has really crappy road crews.... as soon as we crossed the missouri state line, we were greeted by 2 snow plows and nice, clean (even dry in spots) highway =)
Haha... Well tehy're cheap now so that may be a good idea!
Works for me, I have a 2800+ for $90 That SLK-800 is AWESOME!!!

hehe... I was actually thinking of just ordering a tbred, and using this cpu as a 2nd comp =)

I noticed the prices dropped ALOT immediatly following the barton release, which rocks =D

I got a new high 3dmark score http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6032777

I ste the CAS back to 2.5.

This case has EXCELLENT airflow... my cpu, right now, is at 104F!!! I've been running lots of progs all day (hehe got this comp at work today) been running coreldraw, corel photopaint, dreamweaver... all kinds of progs. Runs like silk! My northbridge is around 70F right now also (I took a cpu fan off of a socket5 PI-100mhz and stuck it on there... perfect fit!)

Lemme dig up a few pics of the case... ill post em later since im kinda busy right now hehe

something in the mean time...

kewl I definately recommend the T-Bred...make sure the stepping is AIUHB as these seem to be th curreent bad boys of T-Bred oc's. I'm not sure what speeds besides 2100+ you can get them...and I say get the thermalright SLK-800 HS with the TT SmartfanII Best AMD HSF
Very nice score JLAudioFan!

Nice overclock out of your Palomino as well! Too bad it's locked so you can't raise your FSB.
I'm going to stick a palomino 1500+ into the kt-400 once the 8RDA+ arrives, how far do you think it will oc? Stepping is AGKGA0135MPM.
I like that case temp My processor settled in at 42ÂșC
zaltec I had two AGKGA Palomino's and both did 1.7 GHz on air and 1.85V.

Colin... is there anything I can do to unlock my palamino? What other laser locks do i have to tinker with?

<< Colin... is there anything I can do to unlock my palamino? What other laser locks do i have to tinker with? >>

Unfortunately the only thing you can do is fill and connect.
I've not used the rear window defogger kit. I usually use conductive grease, seems to work for me, never had a problem not being able to unlock one, we will see how this latest 1500+ fares under the knife

Where do you get the conductive grease? I had a hard time finding anything to use. The d00d at radio shack gave me a deer in the headlights look when I asked him about silver lacquer...

There is a little packet that comes with the window defogger that is supposed to be used to attach the connector to the window... it's like conductive glue i think. I wonder if that would work?
careful with conductive glue...it's pretty permanent so make sure you don't mess up

When I get home tonight, I'll take a picture of what I use, hopefully you can find something similar.

Totally off subject, but i just saw your (colin) specs. I have a P42.4C paired with an Asus P4P800 along with 2 dimms of 512MB of coursair xms pc3200 (running in dual channel) Now, I upped the FSB from 200 --> 233 Works fine @ 2.8GHZ, but my ram is clocked at 233. It has not crashed once while using it, and it is @ 32 degrees C when idle (about 51 when, say, gaming/encoding video) Thats all fine, but, when I ran MemTest86, it showed, well, alot of errors (that did not show up when the ram was @ 200) Should I be concerned? Also, I messed with the settings, and somehow got the ram to opperate at 184.6 MHZ while the FSB was at 233MHZ...is it ok to keep it like this? i ran a test again at this speed, and no errors turned up. Have I been pushing my ram too far?

Welcome to PCStats Mr Sandman.
I apologize for Wickedcops. Apparently he has not been to GNXtreme's class on manners....... even though you would have been better off beginning an entirely new thread (Colin's been a bit too busy to moderate the forums for awhile).
You were definitely pushing your RAM past it's limits at PC3700 speeds in synch with the CPU FSB. This is why Memtest86 showed numerous errors then and is not now that you have changed the ratio in BIOS. When you day it "works fine" at that speed but showed errors in Memtest86, was it able to run Prime95 through 20+ iterations without giving a hardware error? M86 is very good at stress testing your RAM when you want to know how far past spec it will run.
It's okay to run the RAM out of sync with an Intel system, but why waste the MHz your PC3200 is capable of when running it at 184.6? Tinker with the ratio a bit more and see what that CPU will do with the RAM at 200MHz or slightly higher.
lol I took his class... Although I wasn't being rude as I said before it sucks not being able to use a tone of voice on the forums, typing can be misinterpreted...

Colin's too busy to post on THESE forums, I've seen him alot recently on RedFlagDeals selling and buying various stuff
U mean trading in those forums???
And he wont hang here in his own forums??? He will have some explaining to do!!!
