I'm finally around to building the Photoshop system. My question is what is a good motherboard to put into the system for a P4? I'm thinking about putting in the P4PE with a cheap 2.53B processor it's only $322CDN. In the summer or the fall I will upgrade the motherboard to one of the 800fsb ones and install a newer processor. I plan on putting about 1GB of ram in this computer, what should I buy for RAM to be able to be used in the newer motherboards? Or can I?

Is the 2.53 good for OC? Or is the 2.4 better? My 2.4 that I have OC's pretty well. This will be a fun project, I already have the Antec 1200 Full Tower with all fans and the True 550W power supply.

Thanks

Cayman

Cayman if you're looking for the best overall/fastest mobo, that's easily the Abit IT7MAX2 Rev2. It's the most expensive mobo by far, but that's because fo all the integrated devcies... If you don't wnat to spend that much, the up coming Abit BH7 should be an awesome overclocker as well.

As for which CPU to get, I hear all the retail P4 2.4's and higher are now all C1's which mean you should be able to hit 3 GHz easy... Just reference Intel's S-Spec list on which processors are C1 and get the cheapest you can find.

Although...I would tend to argue the Abit's crown now. The Gigabyte G-8INXP has to be the most stable, plus with dual channel DDR it's faster, and Holicho proved that it overclocks like a mutha too Best of all, it has an AGP 8X slot It's also more expensive than the Abit

Haha... zaltec I forgot about that board. Ya, I guess it's pretty godo if Holicho uses it.

Anybody have a link or information on those new boards? Will the boards be available for purchase that soon?

Thanks

Cayman

The best, most rock solid and fastest P4 with DDR out there is P4PB400 FL by VIA. Yes, VIA.
They keep updating chipset drivers making the system faster every time. It beats all the dual channel suckers out there and comes with 5 year warranty. I've sold a truckload of these in my computer store and not a single one came back. That's impressive.

Karateka

OK, I know this is an old post, but would this be a good upgrade for my Dell Dimension 8250 with a P4 3.06 processor? I need to change out the MOBO as the factory one is crapping out. And I can buy RAM cheaper than the RDRAM that is now in there.

Any help appreciated.
