Oh man oh man! Good new and bad news.

Bad news. My friend ordered the wonderful Epox 8RDA+ and the Barton 2500. He got no display though.
We tried everrrrrything. We changed PSUs, Memory, CPU's, reseting CMOS. No display.
We figured he got sent a defective board. It's the only possible explanation because all the other stuff works perfect on other systems.

The good news is he let me borrow his Barton 2500 and Thermalright SLK800. We are currently running the FSB at 190mhz and the multiplier is set at 11.5x. Take a gander at this screenie:

All this is running at 37C degrees TOPS.

Also, we overclocked my Geforce 4 Ti 4400 to 4600 speeds according to the speeds we saw at one site. 310/650

On 3Dmark01 we got just over 12500.

System specs,
Asus A7N8X Delux
Barton 2500 under SLK800 and dippy case fan.
Enermax 350watt
256mb of Corsair PC3200 2-2-2-5 (we have more memory, but I remember hearing that it runs best with 256.
Those are the main specs.

Gonna fool around some more. See ya!

The only thing that happened when we pushed her too high was that after POSTING it would just restart and say Windows has shut down incorrectly. Would you like to start normally, or safe mode. Blah blah. It would just keep restarting like that. Lowered the FSB 2 mhz and it would work fine. Then I got a random restart when I was folding and chatting so I switched the speeds around. Right now it's like 12 x 175. And it went through the whole night folding, so everything is all cool. Running at about 2088mhz.

Man, I want my own Barton so bad.

oh and.... try increase your Vcore a bit so it won't crash and give you those stability problems you're talking about. you should at least do 2.18 with no problem. !!

I like the sound of dippy case fan LMAO...ya definately want a better fan
That slk-800 rocks doesn't it? that and the mc462+ are the best two...I wanna pick up a MC462+ to compare temps...should be about the same I'd say.
That Asus deluxe board seems to give a few people problems...I definately wouldn't consider it as a choice, but then again as this thread points out, people have problems with the 8RDA+ aswell

roy very nice sir!

Not a bad oc so far... I'd expect more out of that chip though, can you tell me what stepping you're using? My friend's AQUCA Barton 2500+ can do about 2.4 GHz on 1.85V.

As for your friend's problem, what error code are you getting on the Port80 card?

Yeah, my TT Smart Fan 2 is in the mail. It should arrive shortly. I'm also considering buying a SLK800 for myself along with a Barton 2500. Man they are sooooo sweet.

I raised the Vcore a tiny bit, the highest I went was two notches from the default.

Colin, I checked the stepping and it's an AQUCA as well. I'm pretty sure it can do more, I guess I'm just a bit lazy and busy to push it more. I have to mess around with the voltage a bit more and stufff. No worries, I'll push it up a little more soon.

As for my friend's Epox board... at first he got a '02' error which according to the manual is 'reserved' so we don't know what that means. We then thought that the board couldn't identify the new chip so we tried my 2100 and we got a '01' error which is also 'reserved'. We tried every single thing we could think of. We tried different RAM, different PSU, different CPU.. with no luck. We really think that he was sent a defective board because all his stuff works on other boards. The exact occurance is that when we start up it's just a black screen. He ordered his cousin the same exact Epox board so we're gonna do some more tests when that comes in.

Both boards are certainly excellent...it really is a matter of choice, no one manufacturer is ever absolutely free of problems...even Compsnake had probs with his MSI but Shiznit didn't

roy my Barton 3000+ was using that same stepping so you should be able to hit around 2.4-2.5 GHz on air!

As for yoru friend's error, it sounds like the board may be bad.

Oh btw you're past the XP 3000+ speeds! Good work!
