My suggestion, go AMD!

nope, sorry no AMD for me. I've got my eyes set on a P4 2.4B 533, with an Asus P4PE mobo. Hopefully that'll be faster for folding. I know the P4's FPU isn't the best, but I like the faster speeds I can reach with o/cing.

Viper409 welcome to PCStats!

Yay, another Intel user... Unfortunately P4's aren't good for folding but they're fast for everything else! I'm sure you'll be very pleased with yoru new system when you get it.

With my bottom of the line PII 450@517, it takes me about 12 minutes to complete one frame, and about 81 HOURS for a 400 WU. I hope none of you are gonna take this long.
Ok, I think it's about time for me to get a new processor.

BAM!

yeah!!!.. usually i'll tell people not to upgrade because their system is still powerful... ~!! but i think in your case... sorry... that rig just has to go!!!

well a PII at 517 is pretty mighty powerful for writing apps and internet, but for folding it just wont do, what were you thinking? j/k.

hey!!.. whatever rows your boat man!!>. whatever makes you happy! altho you might just find out at some point in the future that AMD is a lot better in many programs than pentium. since it always does more work per clock cycle. don't be clouded by the number of the clock speed written on the box of pentium! but hey....!! why not.. knock yourself out!!... get a P4. can't go wrong with either one these days..!.. colin will always welcome you!

Well it wouldn't be hard to get something to fold faster than your current system, so a 2.4GHz P4 will be faster than your current system...but faster than an AMD of equal(xp2400) value, not gonna happen.

Yeah Colin, I knew you would be happy with his choice....I really don't have anything against Intel, they are fast.

AMD is better for games

and, have we mentioned for folding too!

LOL... P4's are good for gaming as well.

Folding they're not but for games they're fine.

I don't care for p4's but they do a good job of folding with the gromacs core(fahCore_78). with the gromacs core a p4 mhz's is equal to an amd xp's rating. what I mean is... say you have a p4@2.0ghz it would fold on par with a xp 2000+ with gromacs core but with the tinker core p4's are not much better than a p2.
