The thought of getting F@H started again hasn't even crossed my mind. I'm loving all this stability I've got going here.

<< I haven't folded for a couple days because of Windows reinstallation. does the console versino show an icon at the system tray?... can you quit it when you want to tho? cause i might switch to the console version and since EMIII is originally biult for the console verison it might work better with it!

Well after a horrid weekend formating drives and installing OS'es I've decided that only bug-free software is going to be installed on my rig to prevent any future problems. For this reason Folding@Home is no longer on my system. It's for a great cause and all, and I'd hate to abandon the team, but it'll do just as good with one less.

OMG...o come on shiznit...you are doing a lot for the team..we would do good stilll no doubt...but i would be like missing a piece of the puzzle!! and it isnt really buggy..especially the console version...not a single problem with it so far for me on windows xp...i will try linux soon..once i finish downloading something...
Dude, get the console version. I'm moving to that once I reinstall Windows.

I know how you feel about keeping your system bug free though.

Maybe in the future I'll think about starting it again. The visual defects were a pain in the ass. I also need to save as much RAM as possible for my online gaming, so I get about 2-4MB more when that isn't running I know I could just shut it off when I didn't want it running, but that takes effort

What a sad sad day it is when Shiznit is leaving the team. You will be missed. Hey Colin, can I have Shiznit's folding points?

Edit: Shiznit, define "bug free" software.

Bug Free - No noticiable glitches. Software that does not compromise stability. I have had problems in both areas where F@H was at fault. With WindowsXP it causes visual defense along the taskbar. It also cases games (Such as UT2003 and SimCity 4) to minimize when the game is first started, and the the only way to maximize them is to close F@H. These are just two problems that I've found with my system. I know others have had the WinXP visual problems, but I haven't heard about the problems I am having with my games. All seem to stem from the the Windows taskbar.

Man that sucks. All of your Pentium bashing will be missed, take care.

Don't worry, I'll still be around to bash the Intel users....just in other threads. I can do it in the F@H thread as well based on the results of other AMD users.

No, I haven't yet. When I get the time I'll try it. Right now I'm too busy trying to get caught up on schoolwork.

There is still hope for Shiznit! I knew he couldn't abandon us that easy....rock on Shiznit!
Hehe... Shiznit, don't come back just yet... I need to build a nice cushion!

LOL... Bring it on Nasty. Yeah, I asked Colin to start a F@H team, but I'm sure even if I didn't bring it up, we'd have one by now anyway.

Don't stop man, use the Console. That's what I use from the start and I can do everything and it doesn't cause any problems. I watch movies, tv shows, play games, run eMule, use Photoshop and so on and it runs great. I also run 2 consoles on my dual P3-500 for a few days now (slow sucker) and no problem. Kinda sad it doesn't use 2 processors with one console but this way it works as good.

Karateka
I am still using the Barton. I'll have it for a good week or two. I'm gonna buy my own soon after.

As for the console version, there's no icon. You run it through a DOS prompt and I don't know if I used it correctly.. but I didn't not even see a progress indicator.. or the ability to pause/resume later. The program in general is pretty stable, so I'm pretty sure you can CTRL+C it and open it up again later.

I went back to the GUI version though.

After the better part of my first week folding, on my little ol AMD 650 slot A, I finally finished one fold(?), and am now 25% into the second one. LOL Must be nice to have those big monsters that fold faster than mine.

RetiredRedleg

The only kind of pause function the cli has is you can use the -pause flag and it will finsh the wu it has then pause. The gui is just as fast as the cli just as long as it is minimized to task bar.
