Attach one to your case, and one to the bay cover, and they stick together.

I hear duck tape has a million and a half uses!!!!
I'm not familiar with that case. Are the bay covers held in place with screws, or plastic tabs?

I used double sided foam tape, and the end of a bic pen to activate the button. The foam tape has enough give to it and can be stacked up so that normally the pen does not come into contact with the open button, but a slight push on the corner of the drive bay will activate the button. If you like I can post some pix of how-to.

Doesn't matter how far apart the hdd and cd rom drives are, never put magnets in any system. Unless of course your desire is to destroy it...
I would suggest attatching the bay cover to the face of your CD drive. Attatch a little extra piece of plastic between the CD drive Open button and the cover, so you can just push the cover a little and it would open, cover and all.

You must not understand what kind of magnents I'm talking about, or you don't understand physics. Either way, those magnents wouldn't come close to doing any damage. Half the time they don't even stick to the refrigerator. The idea of keeping all magnents away from your computer is a general rule because the average person has no idea what damage could be done. I'm assuming CompSnake knows what he's doing. When you open the C:/Windows directory do you click on 'show all files' so you can see what's in there? Clicking it so you can see everything is okay, it's another example of things to protect the average idiot from themselves.

Roy has a good idea there. I had thought of mentioning attaching them to the front of the drive itself, but couldn't figure out how to use the buttons.

I like Roys idea best myself. Seems like it would be the easiest to do.
well either way those thin strip magnets wouldnt be strong enough to really hold right. i would say double sided foam tape is the best way to go for something like this.

and shiznit .... cds work just like a harddrive does ... they are just a tad more robust. but they can be screwed up with magnets. any magnets that is .. not just big ones.

Preach it FTO. With those strip magnents you'd have to do a hell of a lot of rubbing before there was even the slightest chance of corruption. When I get home from work tonight I'm going to see If I can currupt a CDROM with a few mangents. I'll start using regular refrigerator magnents, and work my way up to a magnent my dad has that if you stick to something like a car, it's damn near impossible to get off. I don't think it'll even come close to harming a CDROM or a CDRW, but we'll see.
I want one of those magnets. I'd get a metal ceiling and use it to scale my walls.

My dad makes SCSI drives and let's me play with those magnets. Those things are damn near a weapon they are so powerful. If it weren't for the steel shields on the magnets, they'd destroy you.
