Do games care if you have more than 512MB of ram in Win98? Or is it true that more ram the merrier? I seem to be getting a lot of hangups lately when I play NBA Live 2001 from EA Sports since I upgraded my system ram from 512MB to 1GB (although my Win98SE system only recognizes 768MB), and I'm wondering if it's the ram or something else about my system that's causing the crashes.

I'm not sure if this question should be asked in this forum or in the OS forum, lol!

From what I have read, graphic intensive applications like games should be happier with more RAM (though how a game running in Win98 can utilize it over the limit you place on the vcache I still don't understand). From your other forum posts I would have to guess that the game crashes have more to do with your overclocked system than the RAM. Then again, I see the RAM is from OCSystem, and the comments made on resellerratings are that they sell overclocked PC2700 as PC3200, which could also be a suspect here.

Thanks, rithemking!

I didn't know that about OCSystem. Yet, the ram I have can do 4-2-2-2 timing at 170MHz FSB... I thought that was pretty good. Maybe the ram is keeping me from getting above 170MHz. I'll keep experimenting.

Reduce the speed of your RAM. You are running a dual channel motherboard. Running your RAM dual channel at 166Mhz is more than fast enough. Your giving your system way more bandwith then it needs. It isn't benifiting at all from such high RAM speeds. It would benifit from slower speeds and better timings.
You are using too much RAM. Windows 98SE has problems with over 512 MB of RAM installed. There are workarounds, but results vary depending upon your specific install and software usage.
