OK, today it seems like I finally hit my systems sweet spot and got this score...

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6442660

18145

But I finished the benchmark feeling there was nothing left. I've read Colin's guide, and my question to you benchmarking wizards is,
1. Does tweaking the OS usually get the results that Colin got in his guide? Only minimal gains...
2. Does changing the memory timings to more aggressive usually only show minimal gains as per the giude?

The FSB seems to be where it's all at and that's where I'm screwed. The Intel mobo only will permit a 4% increase in FSB. That gets me a whopping 208.

Well, if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate the input.....

Later....

I couldnt find any information on overclocking farther how come your fsb isnt at 208 in your score you posted? and you could always try formatting and installing windows 2000 to get a couple extra points

Seems a bit low to me, considering the components you have.

ooooh, it's an Intel board. Well, That's explains the low numbers then.

Canadian-Guy, I was short on time and I ran the test @ default settings, that's why the 200FSB.

DeanLowe, I want to thank you for your candid response. It made me realize that there is not much hope for higher scores.

Farmer, I think DeanLowe means you may need to find a new chipset/motherboard to increase the score significantly.

I think I know how he ment it rithemking, and I didn't take offence. Just a bit disheartening to get a 18k score and find out it seems low. I'm glad DeanLowe told me. Kinda got my head out of the clouds and back to earth. Knew when I got it that o/cing would be minimal, but it still seems fast to me, so I'll be happy.

Thanks....

Actually, I just expected to see a higher score before reading Farmer's sig. I wasn't passing judgement on his hardware. It's a fact that Intel makes boards that are more reliable than fast.

The P4C800 would not be my choice. I tried it with a low end 1.6A so it might be different with a 3C.

I don't like the P4C800 because it doesn't use CSA for the Gigabit LAN and no ICH5-R for the RAID.

damn you're picky!!! personaly those little features don't bother me. i could care less about LAN and SATA.

DeanLowe

I personally do not use RAID and don't have a Gigabit switch so they don't affect me. I just think they should've used CSA and the ICH5-R because they decrease the bottlenecks.
