I think a sweet case would be made out of plexi and be the same size as the top of your desk. Lay all of the parts out and have fans all the way across the front pulling in air and fans in back pushing it out. you could have usb ports right in the front of your desk. Make it thick enough to hold the weight of you monitor. Sound cool...not sure if I explained it the way it looks in my head!! lol
That does sound really cool...especially if you have neon string running roung the edge of the inside

That is a cool Idea...you wouldn't have to make the whole desk out of plexy...although that would look awesome...especially with lights in it.
You could do a wooden desk and just make a "window" where your mobo was...but from Shiznit's recent mishap I would want to line the inside of the wooden case with fireproof epoxy....

The desk Im using now would work if i took the top right off and put plexi in its place (same width but a little thicker for clearance) IT CAN BE DONE....I just might try it!!

Oh and it would be ALL LIT UP FOR SURE!!!!

Didnt know a theme park mascot/janitor gets paid enough to afford things like that... Remember your job is seasonal and you dont want to go hungy this winter like you did last year.

Go hungry? You mean you actually take time away from the computer to eat?!!!! LOL!

<< Thats a good one StubDick.....lol >>

WOW! never heard that before... You little poop nugget!

But back to the topic on hand... I agree it would look nice but I think that would be all it would be good for plexi does not have good thermal properties so you would need ALOT of fans and good air flow or a quieter alternative but more expensive (if you can afford the case you can afford this) would be water cooling... So dig deep killas you are going to need about $1000 for this little project you are planning!

$1000 your nuts

no way it would cost that much
i dont have to get that thick of plexi

just have to support it in the right spots thats all
and i got a buddy at work that can get some for me at cost!! even better

!!wootzor!!

Ok To build desk you would need at least a surface 4 feet by 3 feet for the top and the same for the bottom, then you need material for the sides and center supports. Thickness would need to be 1/2 inch to make sure it would be capable os supporting the weight of the computer moniter and any other odds and ends you want on top along with supporting the owner when he wants to lean on it and so on... With all that in mind I checked prices of Plexi and a 48"x96" sheet of 1/2" sheet will set you back $732.66 and shipping is an extra $128.46 bringing the total for the plexi to $861.12 then you need all the hardware to assemble the table top along with any cutting needed which you dont have the tools to do correctly, nor do you have the tools to round out the corners (no a router wount work if you want it clear) and also some legs to support it, so about $1000 was correct if not more... Start digging in them pockets!

i was going to use my current desk as the base for it and have this sit on top

i could also wall mount my monitor!!

and i have that guy at work that can get it for me at cost (NO MARK UP!)
so NO WAY A GRAND!

so nah nah!

oh also home depot or Lowls will cut it for me for nothing
i just need big straight cuts

You need to be clearer about things, from what I gatherd from your initial post you wanted to make the whole desk out of plexi so for what I thought you were exlaining my quote is correct! You even said yourself that it needed to be able to hold the monitor in your first post there was nothnig about mounting it on the wall! So get the facts straight jack before you post ideas and try and prove a point. You ARMF!!!!

the mounting of the monitor on the wall was an afterthought, but the supports inside the case could support it even with thin plastic if you placed em right!

The only way you could get it thinner would be to use lexan in place of plexi but even then it wouldnt be as thin as you think it would. Plus lexan costs more than Plexi so the cost might go up!

Dont forget either that both lexan and plexi scratch really easy so if you want it to stay clear you will need to polish it on a frequent basis to keep it looking nice and perdy.

Hey I am just trying to help you understand what you are thinking of getting into before you start spending the moola... I would rather build a case out of aluminum and smack a window on it to see the internals, aluminum has much better cooling abilities... Plexi is an insulater! I would make the majority of the case out of aluminum and just put a window over the mobo.
