Half-Life 2 is being released in Sepetember. Just to let anyone know. If they make a CS mod for that.. it could be the end *smirk*

-Will

I dont think Valve or whatever the company made/publishes it will be doing a second one. I dont think that there is going to be Blue SHift 2 etc. I think there just going to make this one really big with built in expansion thingy. Hmmm but Im not totally looking forward for this game, it has been said it will just be a NVidia-card based game, but surely someone will create an ATi patch for it

Actually, they displayed the game at an ATI booth.. running on ATI's 9800 Pro to calm down the rumors that it will be an "nVidia ONLY" game.. Also, it has already been scheduled for release in the US in September. This isn't a rumor, it has been said by vALVE themselves.

-Will

thanks for clearing up the nvidia only rumour and i knew that the release date was sometime in September. Im sort of really looking forward to this game as the first one has been claimed as best shooter ever with its amazing story. I wanna see how Valve tops it other than graphics-wise

Yeah.. I guess.. as for graphics wise the game will top all others significantly! It is using a new, much more advanced particle emittion system as well as many more polys and realtime shadow systems. It will take advantage of the new HT enabled processors for better AI and more on screen animations. The graphics are uncomparable to it's older brother for the simple fact that it utilizes so many new features of graphics cards that didn't exist back in 1998.

You should pre-order if you can. I know I will. YOu should purchase a Radeon 9700 Pro for best performance in the game.

-Will

ya I was planning on upgrading my video card to that, before i get that game, and firstly i got to get a new mobo, this one is crap for gaming. And of coarse HL2 graphics are gonna be better, they are gonna be comparable to Doom3

Half-Life 2 is going to rule. I just got my paws on the 500+ mb fileplanet trailer from the E3, I can't wait to watch it when I get home from school.

Poly, speakin of Doom III Activison announced they scrapped the Nov release date to sometime in the 1stQ next year. Probably don't want to be out done by HalfL2. Fine by me, I thought RTCW was a disapointment.

A few random problems w/ Return to Castle Wolfenstein:....Ahemmmm..

1. I unload in a Nazi's face and he might still survive. Weapons in felt weak altogether.
2. Graphics not the next big thing, at all. (w/ the name "Wolfenstein" attached to it I had big expectations.
3. The regular grenades suck (this one deserved its own number).
4. I can't use the arrow keys the way I want. I want a game that let's my have total control over my playing style.
5. Levels not that cleverly done. I felt very confined and often bored.
6. No neat extras. Okay I cant use the gun turrets, so what?
7. Guys die the same. Lame reactions. Remember Soldier of Fortune 2? They has something like 25 special hit areas and they'd act differently for each one (and that as a Quake2 engine game).
8. Your player's sneak ability is very poor.
9. Other things...

Sweet dude, I might see you there! I got to every expo I can (my school gets me in free) GDC and E3 so far this year And yes, I might have been one of those geeks you heard in the background in the E3 demo for HL2, hehe..... "Will it work on my 486???" that guy was next to me when he said that, haha.

-Will.

oh they did, well thanks for mentioning!
Hmmm how come you thought RTCW was a dissappointment... I thought it was just amazing, reminded me off the times when I played the classic Wolfenstein 3d.

I just spent Monday night downloading all the trailers for HL2, and all I have to say is OMG!!!! Talk about emulating reality, this game is killer. Seeing vertical blinds cascading from bullets flying through a window.......being able to interact with just about everything in the environment (actually pushing a table to barricade a door so the enemy can't follow you in).......geo mods looking a little more random than the chunks you see in Red Faction......and the level of detail (I sure as hell am glad I have a DX9 card already)!!
I do kind of wonder, though, how non-linear the game is. You can't really tell for sure from just the demos.
One neat addition I thought was having the head on those chicken-head zombies detach after you've wasted the body and continue attacking. LOL.

I need a new CPU so badly. I downloaded the HL2 Barricade video and my system is so slow that it can't even play that video.
just read an article from a newsletter that i get from pc insight. they are claiming to have heard that valve will be releasing HL2 in three different versions. your entry with just the single player game, your second level will add the online play and the ability to run mods, and the top dog will come only from valve themselves through there online distrubution system steam. this last one will be downloaded from valve and come with a monthly subscription. with this subscription you will be able to play all the valve online games past(original HL) and future in the stable. anyone else heard or read anything like this.

I'm not a big fan of subscribing to software. I have enough bills every month. The only software I subscribe to is McAfee Virus Scan Online....just because that software changes so much. It would be nice if they released a cut-down version for slower systems....maybe a Direct X 8.1 version.

Omga....thanks for the news letter. I didn't know where it came from until I saw this post. I didn't remember signing up for that, but thanks for the forward Gave me something to read.
