Hey guys, as some of you might know I put together an Epox 8rda+, two pc2700LL corsair XMS 512's, xp1700 JIUHB, and the Vantec AeroFlow last night. I started the thing up with fsb set at 166. Now, I wanted to enter the race for the best oc'd 1700 but I'm not having the best of luck. Maybe you can give me some pointers. The highest stable overclock so far has been 2.15ghz @ 172X12.5. I was able to boot with 2250 at one point. But 3dmark03 doesn't complete. When I tried setting fsb at 198 the computer wouldn't post, had to clear cmos. Suggestions are welcome

I have corsair xms pc2700LL twin installed in banks 2 and 3 in the epox. I made sure to install the cpu very carefully and put thin layer of some really expensive heat greese stuff from newegg.

Below is my bios settings

RAM frequency 100%
fsb 172
ratio 12.5 (epox doesn't call it multiplyer)
everything is set to agressive and expert mode
6
3
3
cas 2.0
agp frequency set to "auto" I have a gf4 ti 4600... should I set it at 66mhz?
172FSB may be the best you can get with that PC2700, even with relaxed 2-6-3-3 timings. Then again, try removing one DIMM and see if you can't increase it just a little more using only one stick (sometimes this eases the stress on the memory controller). You could also attempt using a lower multiplyer and a higher FSB (you should notice a performance increase with a higher FSB if it will work at all).
As for the AGP setting, I hear the GeForce likes higher rates, so try increasing that as well. Might increase your 3DMark score.

default agp port speed is 66mhz right? not like 33 or something??? Also.. how I had to reformat last night.. I lost your email address rithmaking. How do you PM ? Ooo.. also, how do you change what is says under your name under the avatar on the left side of the forum? LIke mine has: VincentMalloy.. then like l33t |/| etc... how can I change that in the profile or whatever? or does it have to do with rank in the forums?

-Willhelm.

default should be 66. I think it is the PCI that is 33default and should probably be locked on that mobo.
LOL. So you deleted my email message? That's okay. I'll send you another later tonight when I get on myav@hotmail.com (hinthint - LOL).
In order to have something else under your name you need to have at least 1200-1500 posts. Don't give up, I got mine in about 4 months time, and without spamming(much-lol). Your title will change every so often as you get higher in number of posts.

I'll save that email addy I use trillian.. but I reformatted my HD last night... lol.. so I won't be able to get on any instant messaging for a bit. I use msn the most..

-Will

LOL. It was actually newbie until you hit 20 or so. I don't remember what the next one is, but haxor comes around 500 or so.
So you reformatted? Wouldn't it work in the new mobo or did you decide to start from scratch to get better benchmarks? My empty 120GB (what a waste, I know - lol) gets hella better benchies than my 70%full 60GB HDD.

Your Corsair should not have any problems running 200FSB with 2-3-3-6. Raise the voltage on the RAM a bit. Start the AGP speed at 66MHz then slowly raise it the same way as the FSB.

Oo... thanks for the info Dean. I've gotten the fsb up to 190 X 12 = 2.28 (reports it as 2.29ghz in windows.. but that's microsoft ) I did up the RAM to the next option which is like 2.74or something like that. What would be a safe voltage. I've tried all the way up to 1.85v for the cpu and it doesn't change the stability when I'm at 2.302 (it's still unstable). I just need to know what's a safe max voltage to put into that ram.. thanks

Well... it worked with the os but it had issues with trying to setup my modem again and my dial-up connection, also, when I right clicked My Computer and selected properties it would give me a rundll entry point error. Also, everything runs nice and quick with the drive formatted.. the whole system seems "clean" gotta love that. Plus, it was no biggy backing info up to my other drives.

-Will

Safe voltage is usally +/- 10%. Extreme people, like Colin, kick it up a notch and use +20%~+30%. But that's not advisable for long term use.

I got it up to 2.22 stable as a horse.. good enough to tide me over to my p4 3.00C comp I'll be building in a couple of months.

-Will
