I am thinking of getting a crystal orb for my radeon and some ramsinks for it as well and a heatspreader for my ram.

I wanna if its worth upgrading my current CPU heatsink for a Volcano 11 (I would love to have the Swiftech MCX462+ but i cant spend 50 bucks on a heatsink)

If I put a AERO V fan on my current heatsink will I see a difference? Cause the 2 heatsinks look similar and I just wanna drop my CPU temps 2 or 3 Celcius I'm not o'clocking any faster cuz i dont need to its fast enough already Heck it was fast enough underclocked to 1700(thats how it ran for the first week cuz i didnt notice the mobo didnt automatically detect the proper CPU speed.

well all the stuff for the vid card will cost me 15 bucks
so it all comes out to 90 bucks (vid card + coolers) The 9500 will cost a lot more and i dont have more $

Nvm, my friend and i took temps of the vid card and o'clocked after running 3dmark2001 5 times the gpu was only 45 celcius and the mem was 40 and both seemed cold to the touch so I decided that 250 by 250 is just the cards max and it wont go any higher even if i use a better heatsink so i will spend the $$$$ on a window kit and some cathode lites since I just rearraged my desk and now my PC is on top where it can be seen.

I am using the 462+ and I love it. Dropped my temps 3c from using the Heatpipe HHC-1. Make sure you have the four holes around the cpu. I would also suggest using a vantec tornado 92mm 119 cfm fan with a nexus controller. Nice setup.

In addition to neverfastenuf's suggestion...get Artic Silver 3...it lowered my CPU temps on the 1700 setup 3'C...

LOL, yeah. Even if you don't have the cash right now, save a bit longer PCgeek 14 for that set. You will find it was well worth it. I love mine as well.

I say save up the cash and buy the MCX462+...it will be well worth it...I have not actually gotten to run mine yet(should be getting my new PSU any day now)but I have heard reports from rithemking and neverfastenuf that the low low temps are well worth the cash.

Well, as for me, I can't use the MCX462+ because my mobo doesn't have the right holes on it, but I just ordered the SLK-800A and it's on its way!!! I've been getting some high cpu temps lately (around 50C while idle), and I'm really looking forward to some lower temps.

About how many degrees cooler can I expect with the SLK-800A?

The SLK800A dropped my Barton 2800+ temps from 44C to 34-36C idle. Not bad paired with AS3, I'll say.
Just keep in mind, the socket orientation on the NF7-S is not ideal for the SLK800. The fins will be sitting horizontally, not vertically as intended. Are you going to pair it with a Vantec Tornado or a Tt Smart Fan 2? Right now I don't have a Vantec Nexus, so I prefer the SF2 as you can adjust the fan speed to keep the noise down when you don't need drastic cooling.

Ginsu did you ever flash the BIOS?...the high temp reading was a probelem in the BIOS on my board...as soon as I flashed it the temps were normal(from 55'C to 40'C after flash)

Hey GNX,

Yeah, I did. I have the newest BIOS for the NF7-S rev 1.0-1.2 (ver 1.9) flashed, and it didn't do anything for my temps. Both my BIOS and MBM5 report cpu temps ranging from 47C to 52C. When the weather was hot, I think the temp went all the way up near 60C!!! Maybe it has to be the BIOS for NF7-S ver 2.0 to get the lower temps. However, I don't understand why that should be because Abit clearly says that it fixed the high cpu temp reading on rev 1.0-1.2 boards with the new BIOS ver 1.9!!!

Any ideas???

rithem,

Actually, I was first going to install a fan rheobus before I think about getting one of those screamers you're talking about. I know the SF2 is adjustable, but I kinda like the idea of being able to do it without having to open my case up every time. Once I get that rheobus set up (should be next week or so... it's being shipped as we speak), I'll let you know.

See, I don't get it... Right now, my cpu temp is 46C and my mobo temp is 31C. Other times, they go up to ~52C/~35C. What's going on???
